NORMA GIESBRECHT With sadness yet gratitude we, as a family of Norma Giesbrecht, would like to let her friends know that she has passed to the great beyond on August 29, 2017 at the Maplewood Manor in Steinbach, Manitoba. In spite of the tough battle of five years, she remained a woman of grace and bravery. How we loved her chuckle. Our sister lived in Elma, Manitoba most of her life, but was more recently a resident of Steinbach. Though that is where she lived, she served the community of Manitoba for the greater portion of her working career as a Pediatric Intensive Care Nurse at Children's Hospital, Health Sciences Centre. Here she gave of herself with integrity and diligence. She served wherever she was; keeping the family happy, advising the local mothers on the care of children, driving across the city to pick up a package for someone back home. She also farmed; and as was typical of her work ethic, her chicken flocks did well under her care. A service of memories will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach, Manitoba. Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Whitemouth Mennonite Church. Arrangements by BIRCHWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL 1-204-346-1030 OR 1-888-454-1030

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Norma was a great nurse and gentle person who was always there when you needed advice starting out as a new nurse. I worked with her in PICU for a number of years. I will never forget and I always asked her how in the world she could work as a nurse in PICU with a dress! But that was Norma. Rest in peace. I know you will help all of the other Angels in Heaven as well. Angela Castro - Posted by: Angela Castro (Co worker) on: Sep 02, 2017

  • Norma was a beautiful woman. She was caring and kind to everyone that crossed her path. Brilliant with a great sense of humor, I admired her daily when working with her in PICU. She is a legendary nurse, a wonderful patient educator, advocate and to many of us, she was a great mentor. - Posted by: Julie Kowalski () on: Sep 01, 2017

  • I was blessed to work side by side with Norma! She was soft spoken, gentle, generous and caring! She also was a wonderful nurse! She was always open to teach and to learn. I am so sad that she was taken so young. She deserves to rest in peace. - Posted by: Karen Ackerman RRT (Coworker) on: Aug 31, 2017

  • I am saddened to read that Norma has passed away. As a nurse, I worked with Norma in PICU in the 1990's for 9 years. She was an excellent nurse, and supportive co-worker, but more importantly a wonderful person. My condolences to her family. Rest in peace Norma.
