CORNELIUS SAWATZKY It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of their beloved husband, father and opa, Cornelius Sawatzky on October 7, 2017 at Concordia Hospital. Cornelius will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by Agnes, his wife of 66 years; son Peter (Nelly, their children, Charles, Paul and Larissa (Caleb); son Irvin; son John (Carol), his children, Jason (Melani), Jenna (Greg), Kaila, Karl and Kathleen and her children Dustin, Bobbi and Jenni; son Gordon (Sandy), their children Martina and George and eight great-grandchildren and his sister Lydia Dyck. Cornelius was born on April 4, 1928 in Osterwick, Ukraine to Johann and Margareta Sawatzky. He apprenticed as a machinist in Germany from 1943 to 1949. Part of this training took place while he was in a refugee camp in Backnang, Germany, where he met the love of his life, Agnes Kroeger. In 1949 he immigrated to Canada and married Agnes on May 27, 1951 in Winnipeg. Cornelius began his machining career in Canada at Thor Manufacturing in the fall of 1950. He ended his career 44 years later in 1994 as a working manager of Thor. During his retirement years, Cornelius enjoyed playing golf, dominos, spending time with his children and grandchildren and travelling with his wife Agnes. The family would like to thank Dr. Mohammed and the staff of Concordia hospital for their care and concern. • When meeting Cornie he had always something interesting to share. He was a friend to me. He would also help me do things whenever I was in need. He even helped me get my first drafting job. I will cherish his friendship and dearly miss him. My sincere condolences to Agnes and family. I trust Cornie will meet our loved once in heaven waiting for us to come there too.
