Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRIGHT REVEREND MITRED HIEROMONK DR. VASILE T. PAVENSCHI It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Fr. Vasile Pavenschi, aged 99 years, on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Holy Family Home in Winnipeg. Left to mourn his passing are his son Mikhail Pavenski, daughter-in-law Ludmila, and his two granddaughters, Larissa and Katerina with their families, as well as many distant relatives and friends in Ukraine. Born 19.XI.1918 in village Roztoky, Chernivtsi region, Ukraine (the eldest of 4 children). Attended 7 grades at the village school, 4 grades at High School in Vyzhnitsia, Chernivtsi region, Ukraine. In 1940 graduated from the Gymnasium in Iasi, Romania. 1940 to 1947 Studied at Medical Faculty in Iasi, Romania. Got his Diploma of Doctor of Medicine and Surgery. In 1942 married Maria Varvara Mihailescu (only one son Mikhail survived of 4 children). Two years of training at Military School - Infantry sublieutenant, followed. 1944 to 1948 working as a doctor in Socola Iasi Hospital. 1948 to 1957 military doctor (moving to different towns in Romania as requested by military forces). 21 August 1956 he was conferred the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. 1957 requested his demobilization in order to return to his motherland - Ukraine. 1964 to 1972 living in Chernivtsi, Ukraine - Doctor of Psychiatry. 1972 back in Bucharest working as doctor. 1979 retired. 1976 to 1981 studying at the Theological Institute in Bucharest. 1981 ordained as a deacon, then as a priest - working as priest at different parishes in Bucharest. 1985 obtained the permission from the Consistory of UKRAINIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH OF CANADA (U.O.C.C.) to work in Canada as a priest. Joined clergy U.O.C.C. in May 18, 1986. At the beginning was working in Winnipeg at different Parishes - Fort Frances and Atikokan, ON as parish priest. Awards: Golden Cross - 1988 - Metropolitan Wasyly, Archpriest - December 1992 - Metropolitan Wasyly. In 1992 - 50th wedding Anniversary Celebration. 1993 August lost his beloved wife of 50 years. During one of his last visits to Ukraine following the repose of his beloved wife, he was tonsured an hieromonk and was blessed with the right of wearing the mitre. 1994 retirement, living at Millennium Villa (Burrows Ave.), Very Reverend Archpriest-Emeritus, attached to St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral. January 2011 - starting his living at Holy Family Home. On October 24, 2017 passed away. Funeral Rite for a Priest, Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral. Hierarchical Divine Liturgy & Conclusion of Funeral Rite. Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral. Celebrant: His Eminence Metropolitan Yurij assisted by local clergy. Interment Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral.
