GREGORY MARK THOMAS BOZYK April 24, 1960 - October 27, 2017 "It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live. It's not about what you had, but what you gave. It's not about how you looked, but how you lived. And it's not just about being remembered. It's about giving people a good reason to remember you." Greg was born to Paul and Kathryn Bozyk and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Angel; sisters Patricia and Barbara; brother Christopher (Sandra); nieces Krispin (Stefan) and Stacy, nephew Trevor (Austin); and his many friends who helped him create a wonderful life. Greg attended St. Ignatius School, St. Paul's High School and the University of Manitoba. His charismatic personality, strong work ethic and professionalism allowed him much success in whatever he did, from operating his own waterski business, to running for city council and having a very successful career in sales for over 30 years. His passion and love for all things creative began when he was a child and continued on well into his last days. He had a thirst for adventure that could be quenched only by travelling to many amazing places. He reflected on his travels often and loved to share stories of the many sights he saw and people he met along the way. We will lovingly remember his ability to make any activity, no matter how small, exciting through his vivacious spirit, whether it was making a simple dinner, sharing a fine wine, singing in the boat, playing his guitar, chilling at the lake or just going for a simple walk. Whatever he had he would share with others, even if was just a smile. Greg was everyone's cheerleader. He would be the first one in the water for that first ski of the morning and was always there offering help to anyone in anyway he could. He believed that one act of kindness would make a world of difference. If someone was having a "notso-great day", he would always try to lift their spirit because he loved life so much. He made an indelible impression on anyone he met. Greg's boyish enthusiasm was valued especially by his close friends. Greg was passionate about so many things and knew a little bit about everything, whether it was who was playing in the next game, politics, religion, wine and food. He would love to share his stories about playing and supporting Crusader football, being in a band, operating his own business and running for city council. He fell in love with the lake; lake life was his solace. He had enduring, lifelong friendships. He was a consummate gentleman with a heart of gold. Life is mysterious and can't be fully understood. It takes sadness to know what happiness is - noise to appreciate silence and absence to value presence. Goodbyes are hard to say and they hurt so very much. Though Greg has passed, he remains in the minds, the hearts and the lives he's touched. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ignatius Church, 255 Stafford St., at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Paul A. Bozyk Memorial Bursary at St. Paul's High School. Greg had great love and admiration for his father and created this bursary as a way to honour him. Donations can also be made to a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (14 entries)

  • My sincerest condolences for an incredibly great loss. Please know Angel that you’re in my thoughts and prayers. I’ll always remember Greg being the lucky guy who got the girl everybody wanted. I met him through Angel when she first started dating him. She swore she was never going to fall in love again but I could tell from the start they were good for each other. They were both these free spirits and they belonged together. It's sad that you could not grow old together. I hope you know that he will always be with you in spirit. May all the sweet memories of Greg bring you comfort. - Posted by: Ryan Drakemen (Friend of Angel) on: Dec 15, 2017

  • Sorry for your loss. - Posted by: david goldenstein (old friend of Angels) on: Dec 08, 2017

  • I met Greg while he worked at the Piazza over the Christmas season the past few years. We all looked forward to his return every year. Greg was always so positive and we shared a love of Jamaica. Your tribute to Greg is perfect and captures his amazing spirit and love of life. My sincere condolences on the family's loss. - Posted by: Elayna Zadko (co-worker) on: Nov 20, 2017

  • I was deeply saddened when I heard of Greg's passing and I send my utmost sympathy to his wife Angel and surviving family members. How does one begin when you've shared 10 years that were so full of incredible experiences and pivotal moments in life? I met Greg through music, and we had a blast performing together in "Altered States" along with Al, Terry and Rob. He was always so appreciative of any opportunity to play gigs, even if it was for a charity, to dress in spandex, spike his hair, don a little eyeliner, crank up the "Marshall" and to become a weekend rock star. Greg had a fantastic voice and proficiently played and covered Billy Idol, The Payolas, The Cars, Red Rider and other 80's icons, as well as performed several truly excellent original songs. I can still envision our poodle Brandy, curled up on a pillow in Terry's bass drum as we shook the foundation of the Windsor Park house. Greg taught me to waterski, and thus began our love of "the course" and Tournament Ski Boats. We competed in slalom in Manitoba, British Columbia, and even on the islands of Jamaica and Antigua. Blue Marlin Watersports was a dream that came to fruition in the early '90s in the beautiful Okanagan Valley, and Greg's affinity to teach and share his talents, truly fed his soul. There's no question Greg's passion was the water (on early morning ripple-free glass especially), as was the camping/cottage lifestyle which has resonated through the years at his beloved Betula Lake. When I think of Greg, what comes to mind are; the quaint Italian eateries in Winnipeg that he would frequent which were Vesuvio and Mamma Mia's, Masi and Valpolicella wine, ANY pizza, his famous Spaghetti Carbonara that he would proficiently prepare, red roses, Jamaica, Reggae music - especially Bob Marley, Crusader football, Notre Dame, and his devotion to the Blue Bombers, which was always an epic experience to behold should they be in a Division Final or at The Grey Cup. Greg adored and respected his family, loved holiday traditions and he had many unique friends. We have all truly lost a kind and exuberant individual that has gone too soon. Greg's passing has dimmed a tiny light in my heart that can never be brightened, but I will be forever grateful for the time he shone his vibrant energy into it. I will never forget you Greg. Safe journey my friend, and may you always "kiss the buoy as you pass through the gates". - Posted by: Susan Mackney (Bozyk) ( Friend ) on: Nov 20, 2017

  • I am truly saddened byr Greg`s passing. My sincere condolences to Angel and to the rest of the family. I cannot remember my time at Betula without thinking of Greg and Angel. Those are memories thatwill always be cherished. He was one ogf the main drivers of the 8:30am morning ski. I know that skiing was a major part of his life and being at the lake meant everything to him. He will truly be missed. - Posted by: Gerald Cyr (Friend) on: Nov 06, 2017

  • I have fond memories of Greg. I met him while working for parks at the Betula Lake Campground. He taught me how to ski the course, helped me buy my first boat, (his old J-craft). I bought my first camper trailer from him. He took me for my first parasail ride. I remember singing harmony with Greg around a campfire as he had a great voice. I still have copies of his early university band tapes. I found him his mastercraft in Texas that he had brought in. He was always willing to pull someone with his boat and mentor. He will be missed - Posted by: Perry Henschell (Neighbour at the lake) on: Nov 04, 2017

  • Very Sorry to hear of Greg's Passing. We had a lot of good times at St. Ignatius school. Greg was an avid football fan, who coaxed Neville {my brother} and me to play touch football for hours and hours. Go to Bomber games in the Salisbury end Zone. Those were really good times! It's too bad we fell out of touch. Greg Shende - Posted by: GREG SHENDE (Friend) on: Nov 01, 2017

  • Very sorry to hear of this. I worked with Greg at the wine store. He will be sorely missed, as he was an incredibly positive and fun person to know and work with. Everyone here appreciated his lively sense of humour, playful personality and willingness to pitch in, and genuinely looked forward to his appearance every Christmas season. This year was no different... I feel lucky to have known and worked with him, and especially for the last opportunity that I had to catch up with him this past Thursday. My thoughts are with Angel, who I was not lucky enough to meet but heard lots about from Greg, and the rest of his family and close friends. - Posted by: Erin Baragar (Co-Worker) on: Oct 31, 2017
