Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIANNE HORDYK On December 11, 2017, Maartje Annetje (Marianne) Hordyk peacefully went home to the loving arms of her Lord and Saviour. Marianne was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands on July 13, 1928. She immigrated to Canada with her husband and two sons in 1955. She is joining her predeceased husband Arend, of 58 years. Marianne is survived by their children, Len (Ann) Hordijk, of Lac du Bonnet; Tom (Diane) Hordyk, of Winnipeg, Gilbert (Alice) Hordyk, of Winnipeg, Carol (Henry) Janssens, of Thunder Bay and Marc (Miriam) Hordyk, of Winnipeg; and Marlene (Tiemon) Schelhaas, of Thunder Bay; along with 22 grandchildren and 61 great-grandchildren, who will all miss her. She was predeceased by granddaughter Kaitlin and great-grandson Adam. Marianne was the oldest of nine children of which two are deceased, Nelly and Tom. Marianne became a kindergarten teacher in the Netherlands. She had a strong commitment to Christian education her whole life. Much time was devoted in various ways to Christian Education. When her children were in school full-time, she began working at a local daycare centre. Marianne loved to sing and used her voice to give God praise and Glory in her church choir. Marianne was a longtime member of Providence United Reformed Church. Even in her retirement years she taught a Bible class at an elementary school. Marianne was a devoted wife and mother and a fantastic grandma and great-grandma. Her knitting skills had many proudly wearing her creations at one time or another. 3 John 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. We would like to give a heartfelt thank-you to all the wonderful staff at Donwood Manor who knew and cared for our mom. Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Providence United Reformed Church, 2615 Henderson Hwy. Private interment will be held at Green Acres Cemetery prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Bible League of Canada.
