Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I got my start at CBC Radio in Winnipeg. I remember John's warmth and support, especially to me as a rookie. Sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Neil Sandell (colleague) on: Jan 03, 2018

  • Very sad to hear of John's death. He was a lovely man to work with in my early days at CBC Radio in Winnipeg - a wonderful sense of humour and always managed to come up with creative solutions to the ever-emerging day-to-day problems. My condolences to all his friends and family. - Posted by: Maureen Brosnahan (CBC colleague) on: Jan 03, 2018

  • John taught me so much about recording and listening when I started at CBC Winnipeg in 1979. And he always did it with humour and without ever talking down to the new kid. Even 38 years and three CBC stations later, I still use the Gillam Book of Knowledge every day. Thank you, John, for everything you did. My deepest sympathies to his family for their loss. - Posted by: Laurence Wall (Former colleague ) on: Dec 30, 2017

  • As a young radio technician learning to be a recording engineer I was fortunate that John “took me under his wing”. But John mentored more than recording. He also made it clear that in life there are lots of things that “just don’t matter" and, more importantly, he knew how to laugh about them. Well shee-it, John, you were so right. Thanks for being a friend. Sincerest condolences to Marilyn and the entire family. - Posted by: Rick Inglis (Friend and colleague) on: Dec 22, 2017
