NANCY ANDERSON It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Nancy Anderson on Monday, December 18, 2017, peacefully, and on her own terms, with her children by her side. Nancy was predeceased by her parents Jim and Tina Anderson. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Paige and her son Quinn; her sister Beverley Collins (Pat); brother Harvey Anderson (Debby); nephew Courtney Anderson (Jaclyn) and daughters, Stella, Charlotte and Olive; nephew Drew Anderson (Chasity) and daughter Harper, her cousin Jean-Marie Auld, and many family, friends, and colleagues. Nancy was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, the youngest child of Jim and Tina. While studying Archaeology at the University of Manitoba, Nancy lived with her grandmother, Margaret Orchard, who she was very close to. They shared a special bond with a love of sewing, needlepoint, and anything to do with the Royal Family. After studying Law at the University of Ottawa, Nancy moved back to Manitoba, where she was called to the Bar in 1989, and began her legal career at Teskey & Co. Nancy was a lifelong learner, returning to the University of Manitoba to obtain her MBA in 2006. She had a varied career working within several departments of the Manitoba Government, including Employment Standards, the Office of the Fire Commissioner, the Consumer Protection Office, and most recently at the Property Registry. She loved her work and made many lifelong friends along the way. Nancy loved being outdoors, spending countless hours hiking, canoeing, swimming, sitting around the bonfire, collecting rocks for her garden and spending time at Royal Lake with her family and dogs. She also took part every year in the Dragon Boat Festival in Winnipeg, until this past year, where she cheered from the sidelines as Paige and Quinn carried on her tradition. In Nancy's honour, a service will be held on January 10, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street. www.bardal.ca. In accordance with Nancy's wishes, please wear something colourful. The family extends their thanks and appreciation to the staff of St. Boniface Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, for the care and compassion you provided to Nancy. Special thanks to the staff of CancerCare Manitoba for the exceptional care and encouragement you gave to Nancy this past year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

I just found out last week of Nancy's passing. I worked with her briefly over the past couple of years through the Property Registry, but I considered her a friend. She was very kind and thoughtful. And she really knew her stuff! I know she will be missed by all. My sincerest condolences to her family. RIP. - Posted by: Steven Greenaway (Work ) on: Jan 15, 2018

To Nancy's family, my deepest sympathy. What a free spirit she was. Dying her bangs blue to match the jets or Teranet. When I became engaged 4 years ago, she gave me a big hug and said "there is hope for me yet". Always a big smile, always asking how you were. She will be sadly missed by everyone. I know we sure miss her around the office. She had lots of cool ideas and always wanted to throw a party. Anyone who attained their Canadian citizenship, she threw a party. When we hit a milestone at the office, she threw a party. Party on in heaven, Nancy. R.I.P. - Posted by: Laverne Teasdake Adolphe (co-worker) on: Jan 09, 2018

My sincere condolences to Nancy’s family. Nancy was always a cheerful lady and gave her all to guide The Property Registry through its many initiatives and transitions. She was always available to offer advice and assistance when called upon. She was very kind to me when my wife developed stage four cancer and then passed away. We shared our struggles and heartbreak involving cancer. I am grateful for all her kindness. She will be missed by all those who knew her. Rest In Peace Nancy. - Posted by: Gordon Plunkett (Co-Worker at The Property Registry) on: Dec 25, 2017

Paige and Quinn please accept my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your Mom. I studied archaeology at University of Manitoba with Nancy and worked several summers with her in Dauphin and Swan River. She let me share her locker because it was closer to our classes than mine. Nancy taught me to enjoy the horrible university coffee and she frequently spritzed me with her expensive Dior Eau Sauvage cologne. And those dimples! - Posted by: Kathleen Stevens Land (Friend/colleague ) on: Dec 24, 2017

The news is still settling, as I grieve the loss of a supreme leader and colleague, but most importantly, a cherished friend. Nancy and I grew close over the last few years, and I can’t help but think about all her characteristics that will be so greatly missed. Nancy never failed to know the names of children, spouses, pets, distant family members, and heck - the name of your car! She could always tell when something just wasn’t right, and knew exactly when I needed a hug, or a good push in the right direction. As I’m young and have very much to learn, I owe a great deal to Nancy. I’ll be forever grateful for the wisdom, experience, and the lessons that she spent hours teaching me. I wouldn’t be half the woman I am today, if it weren’t for Nancy, and the world has truly lost an incredible person. We’ll have lattes soon, Nancy. With so much love, Tarran. - Posted by: Tarran Provak (Friend) on: Dec 24, 2017

My sincere condolences to Nancy's family and friends. I also studied Archaeology at the University of Manitoba and worked with Nancy on several digs in northern Manitoba. She was my tent roommate and we shared many laughs and stories together. I'm glad that she got to live her life to the fullest, and was successful in all that she did. Bless you, Nancy. - Posted by: Cathy Yamada-Swan (Friend and Colleague) on: Dec 24, 2017

It is with great shock and sorrow that I learned of Nancy's passing today. I worked with Nancy in the 1990s in Employment Standards. She was was a complex and beautiful person whom I looked up to a great deal. I was pleased to read that she left this world "on her own terms", which is so fitting, since that is exactly how she lived her life. We will miss you, Nancy, but your laugh and wise words will stay with us forever. - Posted by: Dorothy Bright (Friend and Colleague) on: Dec 23, 2017

I just heard about this and feel so privileged to have known Nancy. I work with Employment Standards and Nancy was the person to have interviewed me years ago. I can’t think of a more professional person and mentor. My thoughts go out to Nancy’s children and family. - Posted by: Jay Short (Co-worker ) on: Dec 23, 2017

My deepest condolences to Nancy's family. Her smile and laugh will be missed at the Property Registry. In Nancy I found a kindred spirit always passing each other in the hallway one of us would ask how you doing and the other would reply with some obscure reference like realitively stable or simply magnificent thanks for asking. Whatever the response it was followed by a laugh. She was a great comfort to me during my father's illness and eventual passing. I will always remember her for that. - Posted by: Sid Dillabough (Co-worker) on: Dec 23, 2017

To Paige and Quinn, and Nancy's family sorry for your lost. Nancy's office was next to mine and was always popping in asking something. Nancy was a great support to my wife and myself when Donna was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012. Nancy always asked how things were going, and I don't think she ever miss a chance to talk about Crosby! Nancy will be missed by many. Grant D.
