Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPATRICIA DIANE MARTENS April 14, 1942 to December 31, 2017 With sadness we share that, after a short battle with cancer, Pat passed from this life at Riverview surrounded by love. Wife, mother, sister-in-law, daughter, aunt, friend, business owner, intrepid world traveller, adopter of new technologies. Predeceased by her father Dmytro (Matt) and mother Lillian Dychakowsky; father-in-law Abram Martens and mother-in-law Agatha and husband Ed. She leaves behind three daughters, Leslie (Peter), Beth, Jacquie, and seven grandchildren, Theo, Christopher, Calvin, Eliot, Liam, Tessa and Sam. She will be missed by siblings, in-law Marlene (Henry), Rick (Carole), Carry (Will), Catheryn (Steve) and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She spent her early years in Kirkfield Park in Winnipeg, where she met her best friend to this day, Donna. Her marriage to Ed in October of 1964 swept her from being an only child, to being welcomed into the greater Martens clan. They were married for more than 50 years, raising three daughters, Leslie 1965, Beth 1968, Jacqueline 1975. Pat and Ed were prone to long road trips pulling a pop up camper to the mountains, to Opapuskow Lake on the Winnipeg River and Riding Mountain, in later years, trading up to trips to Hawaii and Florida. In 1977, Ed began Wordsnorth and Pat began PDM Media Monitoring, which she ran for 30 plus years, through good times and bad. Together they travelled for business and pleasure to many exotic locations, including the Orient, the South Pacific, Australia and New Zealand, the Middle East, Mexico, Europe and the UK. Mom loved beauty. She loved flowers, books, sunshine, cats. She often spoke of her awe at the daughters she produced and their offspring, and to her last moments shared her gratitude for the gifts they were to her. The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who supported them during this difficult time, but especially the staff of the Palliative Care Program and E3 at Riverview Health Centre. Her Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 6, at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main St. Donations to Riverview or The Winnipeg Humane Society in Pat's name welcome.
