Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH AGNES DOWNIE It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Elizabeth Agnes Downie in her home on Sunday, January 7, 2018. Born on November 14, 1930, the eldest of five, Beth or Betty as she was known to family and friends, was an independent, generous, spirited lady, and a loyal friend. After growing up in Winnipeg's West End, she started her career at a young age and retired from Mercury Publications in 1996 after 50 years of service. She was active at First English Lutheran Church for many years until its closing in 2005, singing in the choir and serving in various administrative roles. More recently, she was a member of Lutheran Church of the Cross. Beth was a long-time Blue Bomber season ticket holder and continued to be an ardent fan after she was no longer able to attend the games in person. Beth was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Eleanor, her siblings, Tom, Louise, Bob, and Don, sister-in-law Edith, and brother-in-law Vern. She leaves to remember a life well lived, sister-in-law Myrtle, nieces, Marty (Al) and Kate (Chad), nephews, Tom (Michelle), Rob (Fernanda) and John (Tanya, Jase, Reese), several cousins, and many friends, especially her McClure Place family who she loved dearly. A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Cemetery, Pastor Don Engel presiding. www.voyagefuneralhomes.com

My family owned Mercury Publications and I knew Betty (or "Miss Downie" as she was referred to around my childhood dinner tables) my whole life. I was curious about how she was doing and googled, only to discover she was gone. Condolences to the family, of course - she was a wonderful person and a central character of my childhood. I recall that I could be a bit of a terror when they turned me loose in the office, playing with the copier and getting into the office and art supplies, and I think I might have run afoul of her once or twice in the 1970s. Later, we were co-workers with a much-improved relationship. :> - Posted by: James Paskaruk (Friend/co-worker) on: Jul 12, 2018

I will miss you Beth. Your beautiful smile, generous caring heart and kindness to myself,my children and rest of my family. You have been more than a cousin and more as a friend and sister. May you Rest In Peace and know that your presence is missed. - Posted by: Linda Holmes (Cousin) on: Jan 13, 2018
