JOYCE NANCY TULLY September 11, 1935 - January 11, 2018 Joyce passed away at Donwood Manor Personal Care Home on Thursday, January 11, 2018. She was the youngest of eight children born to Lee and Elizabeth Tully. Born and raised in the West Curtis District on the family farm, she was a true daddy's girl. She attended country school (on horseback), then on to Portage Creamery, driving Dad's truck, where she unloaded milk cans before proceeding to Portage Collegiate. After completing her education in Portage, she moved to Winnipeg where she was employed at the CP Telegraph office, then the RCAF Base, and finally the Manpower Office in Winnipeg. Joyce was very active in sports, playing softball for John Shaley's CUAC Blues, and was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame. In winter it was curling that took up her time and interest. In later years she moved to Petersfield, where she helped her friend Sharon raise her two daughters, Mindy and Brenda. Joyce was predeceased by brothers, Jack, Lorne and Kal, and sisters, Frances (Drain) and Marion (Hogaboam). She is survived by sisters, Ruth (Boyachek) and Hazel King (David); sisters-in-law, Grace Tully, Sono Tully, and Erma Tully, also many loving friends and family through the years. A big thank you to all who visited Joyce and helped her through difficult health problems, especially Dr. David Martin and the caring staff at Donwood Personal Care Home. Cremation has taken place, and there will be a Service of Remembrance in the spring at Oakville, followed by burial in Oakville Cemetery by her mom and dad. "May the road rise up to meet you May the wind be always at your back May the sun shine warm upon your face May the rain fall soft upon your fields And until we meet again May God hold you in the palm of his hand." Amen. Amen.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • My mother worked with Joyce and when I was young I remember Sharon and Joyce with Mindy and Brenda coming over to our house to help with painting or some renovation. She was a dynamic person and one of the many role models in my life to inspire me to strive everyday to be a better person. - Posted by: Kaz (Friend of the family) on: Nov 24, 2019

  • Joyce, you helped raised me from a very young age. You taught me how to swim, you taught me how to pitch and spent endless hours practicing with me. You taught and showed me how to be a good sport. You took off MANY many wood ticks when we would go blueberry picking. You removed the leaches when I swam too close to the dock. You helped me pratice my singing. You looked after mom every single time she was sick. You taught me and helped me in every way that you could. You will always remain in my heart and memory, I'll forever remember your sense of humor, your love for God, family, sports, music and practical jokes. I will treasure the many, many great times we spent together. In the past few years, you had introduced me as "a daughter from another mother". I am blessed and very thankful to have had you in my life . Thanks also to Hazel and her family. I appreciate all that you have done. - Posted by: Mindy Lestage (Family) on: Jan 24, 2018

  • I am so sorry to read of Joyce's passing. I met Joyce at work and looked forward to spring. Joyce filled the fridge with bundles of asparagus for the staff to purchase and take home to our families. I remember leaving with 10 pounds and eating it all week. Joyce always had a smile and made us laugh with her. She made the work environment enjoyable. Joyce will always be a woman that I admired and enjoyed her company. She had a great personality and enjoyed life. It was my pleasure to know her. - Posted by: Colleen Dalton (Former work mate) on: Jan 21, 2018

  • Joyce was one of the sweetest, kindest people we had the pleasure to know. She was not only a great athlete, she had a beautiful voice. Loved it when she sang Danny Boy. Condolences to all of Joyce’s family, especially Brenda and Mindy. - Posted by: Megan & Roger Poitras (Friends) on: Jan 20, 2018
