JAMES ROBERT GILBERT It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, James, at Riverview Health Centre, on Saturday, January 13, 2018. James was predeceased by his beloved wife Lorraine and daughter Cindy. He leaves to mourn his daughters, Wendy (Brian) and Diane; grandchildren, Nicole (Kyle), Michael (Samantha), Chris (Evelyn) and Steven; and great-grandchildren, Sophie and Savannah. James was born in Winnipeg on October 14, 1936 and this is where he raised his family. Later in life when the children were grown, he and Lorraine moved to Lac Lu, ON and built their dream house. Dad took great pride in his garden and was always willing to roll up his sleeves and lend a helping hand to his neighbours and friends. The example that Dad set instilled a strong work ethic not just in his children, but in many generations of his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In accordance with Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. The family thanks Dr. Babick, Dr. Tim Hiebert, the Riverview Palliative Care team and the legions of home care nurses that looked after Dad over the years.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I logged into the site to find info on my uncle and was saddened to stumble on this. My deepest, belated, sympathies to you both, Diane & Wendy. I have wonderful memories of times working with your dad when he owned his own shop and how I felt I was treated like family. Great memories of all the times out at Lac Lu - water skiing, snowmobiling and trips ro Kenora for more run and lemon gin!! I grew to loved your dad and your mom. Would have loved to see the dream home out at the lake. All the best to you both, Lew - Posted by: Lew Cline (Friend) on: Aug 18, 2020

  • It was our pleasure to know Jim and call him family. He will surely be missed. - Posted by: Sue and Wes (Kyle's mom) on: Jan 21, 2018
