JOANNA BRUNKA It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Joanna on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Katherine Brunka and sister in law Bernadette Brunka. She leaves to reflect her precious life, her siblings; Angela Pyrz, Raymond Brunka, Patricia Fosty (Frank) and her many nieces and nephews who will miss their Aunty Jo. To mourn her passing is her furry friend "Jo" her loving shitzu rescue that accompanied her everywhere. "They saved each other". Joanna was born in Winnipeg on July 19, 1945 where she spent most of her life except for a few years in Toronto. She attended Sacred Heart Convent and worked at the U of M Dental College for over 30 years. Joanna was bit by the travelling bug and enjoyed many trips immersed in the culture, music and food around the world. Her favourite moments were spent with family and her endless circle of friends sharing her passion of wine making. She loved her weekends at the cottage at Grand Beach with her childhood friend Barb and her sister Pat and brother in law Frank. Joanna enjoyed volunteering at many organizations with her most recent at Oak Table. Entrepreneurial in spirit and due to her love of her pets she created "Puppy Paws by Jo" and soon in addition to her "Fuzz Ball" and "Jo" she was booting many four legged friends. As per her wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Vital Roman Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Highway. Joanna had a deep and strong faith in God in whom she has now found her final rest. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice or the heart and stroke foundation. www.voyagefuneralhomes.com

  • I was very saddened to hear of Joanna's passing. Joanna was a client of mine in a ladies travel group and we had many wonderful adventures with her. Many of us were away on a tour on the funeral date but we were thinking of her. She will be dearly missed. - Posted by: Shelley Pfeifer (Travel companion) on: Feb 25, 2018

  • So sad to hear of Joanna's passing. She spent time in Iowa visiting all of our relatives, & we spent time in Canada. So glad she made it to our wedding, presiding over our guest book. She had to prolong her stay as we had 10 inches of snow & her flight was cancelled. Love to all of her family. Praying God comforts you in your sorrow. • I had the pleasure of sharing a couple of group trips with Joanna. She was a lot of fun and so obviously enjoyed the cultural experiences. I will miss her on our future excursions. - Posted by: Arlene MacLeod (Funseekers Travel friend ) on: Jan 20, 2018

  • It is sad to read this. I worked with Joanna at the Dental College in the late 70's. She was a very good Lab Technician and I was a lowly Grad Student. She was instrumental in helping me get a few more letters after my name. More importantly though, everyone there had fun, and she was central to it all. She loved to host the many planned and unplanned parties. To this day her balaclava is the one to which I compare all others. (she would love that I just wrote that). I hadn't seen her for years, but a life is bunch of memories, and when I think of my friend, they are all very nice. Rest in Peace Jo. - Posted by: Tom Harrison (Freind) on: Jan 20, 2018
