PEARL ESTHER JOHNSON (nee BAUER) It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Pearl on January 15, 2018 at Concordia hospital. Pearl lived her entire life in the beautiful city of Winnipeg and managed to grow up and raise a family in the same house in Elmwood which had been in her family for close to one hundred years. Pearl spent her married life as a house wife as it was her passion to raise her family and care for her grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband Ken of 52 years in 2009, Pearls greatest joy was spending time with her family. Left to mourn is her son Lyndon (Crystal), daughter Aileen (Dave), grandchildren Eric (Nikki), Alyssa (Darko), Jordon (Mandy), Seth, Taylor and great grandson Wyatt Kenneth all who brought her great joy. Predeceased by her parents, John and Alvina (Dietz) siblings Julia, John, Dorothy Barb, Katherine, Bill, Earl and Lloyd and survived by her sister Aileen and many nieces and nephews. Mom always liked to stay active and enjoyed golfing and bowled for many years at Chataeu lanes where she made many lifelong friends. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and together with Ken they will be laid to rest at a private family gathering. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Donwood manor in Pearls honor who the family would like to thank for providing Mom with outstanding care and compassion over the last year. www.voyagefuneralhomes.com

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • If Marianne Humphreys or anyone would like to email me, that would be fine with me. I hope it's not too late for anyone email me. I'm the last of the eleven in my family and it feels pretty lonesome. I'd love to hear from any of my friends from back then. Hoping and praying. - Posted by: Aileen Benson (Sister) on: May 05, 2018

  • We had the pleasure to meet Pearl several years ago at our bowling league. She was always a very beautiful lady and quickly became know as “Precious Pearl” to us. We wish her peace and feel privileged to have known her! RIP dear friend. Love, Randy and Darlene - Posted by: Darlene Kolody (BowlyFriend) on: Jan 25, 2018

  • Further testimony to what kind of a woman Pearl and her family were is how they welcomed me into their home. A young girl who was shunned by most people because she came from a "broken home" and had an alcoholic father (who just couldn't cope with his demons ), this family treated me with acceptance and kindness. All of them. Her kind sisters and brothers and mother. They were just such special people. Pearl used to curl my hair on Thursdays so it would look nice on Fridays when we went dancing at the local community club. I will never forget her.Marianne - Posted by: marianne humphreys (childhood friend) on: Jan 21, 2018

  • I felt so sad seeing Pearl's name in the obituaries. I knew her well when we were teenagers. Her sister Ail was my best friend and Pearl was her big sister. I used to go their house and I knew her mom who was very quiet but very strict. Ail and I used to babysit for Dorothy and I remember Barb. Pearl was older and had a job, Ail and I were still in school. She was so worldly to us because she was older and worked and made money and we couldn't wait to be like her. I had a crush on their brother Earl and went to his wedding with Ail. He was so handsome. I was always welcome in their home, they were a wonderful family. I remembering thinking of how Pearl fell in love with Ken the first time she saw him. They seemed like a perfect couple . I always remembered Pearl and the whole Bauer family as being some of the nicest people I ever knew. Just good decent , honest people. - Posted by: marianne humphreys (cherniuk) (childhood friend of her sister) on: Jan 21, 2018
