RONALD BARRY THORNE-FINCH Ronald Barry Thorne-Finch, born April 11, 1958, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on January 17, 2018. Ron was 59 years old. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Nancy, sons Jesse and Michael, and a large and loving circle of family and friends. All his life, Ron tirelessly helped others as a social worker, teacher and counsellor. He worked all across Manitoba for Klinic, Blue Cross, Inner City Social Work and the University of Manitoba. He published two books, and as a hobby also wrote extensively about family history and genealogy. He loved swimming, kayaking and spending as much time as possible at the family cottage in Matlock, on the shores of Lake Winnipeg. Ron was an example of kindness, compassion, decency and respect for others. He was a role model of resolve and strength as he confronted many health challenges head-on. He never passed up an opportunity to fully enjoy life. Ron's commitment to serving others was demonstrated again at the end, by his life-saving donation of organs to three other people. We are so proud of our Ron. He is dearly missed by those he loved and who loved him. He fought hard and now can rest. Ron will remain with us forever. A gathering in his memory will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Cropo Funeral Chapel (1442 Main Street). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on his behalf to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (Canada). Or, plant a tree and think of him.

  • Ron, always the gentleman, always caring and kind. Like all good friends we drifted apart in the sea of life as our life decisions took us on our own individual journeys. Odd though, that the measure of a true old friend is not seeing them for a period of years but once together, it is like no time had passed. I learned of your passing yesterday and my heart hurts, there is a loss, an empty space that no one else can or should fill. My thoughts are with Nancy and the boys; may all your memories be warm and make you smile when you think about your time together as a family and you remember that you had the ultimate privilege to be so close to a such an honorable man...........from Ontario with love Bruce, Lisa and Nash - Posted by: Bruce Beakley (old friend.....) on: Jan 21, 2018
