Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY MACRODIMITRIS January 10, 1911 - January 19, 2018 Mary Macrodimitris, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother (Yiayia) passed away just nine days after her 107th birthday, after a short illness. She was predeceased by her husband, George in 1984, and will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Angelos (Pauline) and Aristotelis (Evelyne); grandchildren, Joanna Gillespie (David), Helen Proulx (Michel), Sophia Macrodimitris (Karl Schilling), Mary Ann Macrodimitris, George Macrodimitris and Alex Macrodimitris, and six great-grandchildren. Mary was born and raised in the Greek community of Alexandria, Egypt. She was the eldest daughter in the family and as her mother had poor health, she had to leave school and look after the home. In spite of this, she managed to educate herself and mastered four languages. She was known in the neighbourhood as someone people could turn to for help. She met and married her husband, George, in 1935. Together they raised their two boys in Alexandria, until they were forced to leave Egypt and move to Greece in 1962. They subsequently immigrated to Canada to join their sons in 1973. Mary was a warm, loving and compassionate person loved by all who knew her. The family would like to express their thanks to the caring staff of The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, for their wonderful care of "Mama Mary" in the later years of her life. They also would like to thank Helen Papadopoulos and Mavis Kwitkowski for their kindness and companionship to Mary. Prayers will be held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Ave., on Thursday, January 25 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 26, Father Constantinos Tsolias officiating, burial following at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Portage Avenue West. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg or St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. www.voyagefuneralhomes.com
