NEIL ZACHARIAS June 13, 1937 - February 4, 2018 Dad peacefully passed away taking his afternoon nap on February 4, 2018. Neil is survived by his children: Kim Hildebrand, Melanie (Gord) Mathews, and Monica (James) Buller, and his eight grandchildren, Lucas, Nolan (Kerrie) and Marissa Hildebrand (Winnipeg); Ajabi and Mitsy Mathews (Winnipeg); and Jessica, Cole and Riley Buller (Colorado). Neil was predeceased by his granddaughters, Emma and Sarah, his parents and numerous brothers and sisters. Neil was born to Henry and Mary Zacharias on the family farm in Thames. He loved the country and spent his early years working the farm with his many siblings. It was here where he learned his strong work ethic. He loved playing baseball and formed the Thames Tigers with his brothers. They were a formidable team that was feared by all. He moved to Winnipeg as a young adult and started his career in construction. Other vocations that he did were working in the mines in Thompson and selling real estate. Prior to his retirement, he was a landlord managing numerous properties; rent was always collected on time. His love and enthusiasm for sports continued throughout the rest of his life. Passionately playing, coaching or watching. Saturday nights in the Zacharias household were sacred. This night was Hockey Night in Canada and the channel remained locked on CBC. Neil made a decision to follow Jesus Christ in his 30s and from this point on, his faith never wavered. He committed his time to reading and studying the Bible, leading Bible Studies and even helping with the construction of the church. Neil drew his strength from the knowledge that he would be in heaven soon to be reunited with his parents, siblings and grandchildren that had gone on before him. Due to his decrease in health, he moved to Poseidon Home in January, 2016, where he was well taken care of by the staff and his daughters. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service at 2146 Main Street in Winnipeg. Donations in Neil's memory may be made to World Vision. I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far. Phl 1:23b
