MARTHA MILBRANDT 1918 - 2018 It is with great sadness that we announce that Martha Milbrandt passed away on February 8 at the Whitemouth Care Centre. Martha was predeceased by her husband, Walter Milbrandt, who passed away on November 25, 1960. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Kushnir (Don) and Leona Beaulieu (Denis), by her son Roger Milbrandt (Carmen), by her grandchildren Sherry Durant (Gary), Darcy Freudenberg (David), Jason Milbrandt (Yesenia) and Tara Milbrandt, by her great-grandchildren Meaghan, Kyla, Ashley, James, Jon, Gabriela and Sofia, by her great-great-grandchildren Gus and Molly Martha, by her brothers William (Margaret) Pischke, Clarence (Gail) Pischke and Harvey (Eileen) Pischke, and by her sister Elsie Henderson. Martha Milbrandt was born on January 22, 1918 in Cloverleaf, Manitoba. She married Walter on April 23, 1938. She and Walter worked in Eagle River, Ontario for a time, then took over a farm near Whitemouth and in 1955 bought "Walt's Esso Service", a combination of coffee shop and service station which they operated together until Walter's sudden passing in 1960. Martha continued to run the coffee shop until 1968 when she sold the property. The next year she began working in the Whitemouth Post Office, continuing this until her retirement in 1983. She continued living in her house until she was 98, when health concerns obliged her to move to the Whitemouth Care Centre where she remained until the end of her days. Martha will be remembered by many as an extremely enthusiastic community member. There was hardly any volunteer opportunity at which Martha balked. The Redeemer Lutheran Church, of which she was the first woman board member, the Whitemouth Museum, the Whitemouth Library, the Red Cross, and the Whitemouth Seniors Centre are among the many organizations to which she devoted countless fruitful hours of service. Martha loved Whitemouth and Whitemouth loved Martha. In 2003, she was officially recognized for her extraordinary volunteer work by the Manitoba Council of Aging who presented her with a Recognition Award for her "outstanding contribution to the Seniors of Manitoba". Martha's family would like to extend their gratitude to the entire staff of the Whitemouth Care Centre who so diligently and affectionately attended to Martha's needs in her final years. Space does not permit us to list all of the community members who enriched her life with their care and attention, but we hope none of these good people will feel slighted if we make mention of Terry Wardrop, her doggedly faithful cribbage opponent. A public viewing will be held at the Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour on February 15 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service in the presence of the cremated remains will be held for Martha at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Whitemouth at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2018. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Our deepest condolences to you Darcy, Dave, James, Jon, Sandra and Don. Darcy, your Grandmother was an exceptional woman...smart, independent, beautiful inside and out and very cool. You were blessed to have her in your life all these years; may she rest in peace. - Posted by: Cindy and Lennie Hanischuk (family friend) on: Feb 10, 2018

  • So proud she was my great aunt and so lucky she was in my life. She was just so special! Will miss you auntie Martha! - Posted by: Adrienne Newbury (Great niece) on: Feb 10, 2018

  • Rest dear Martha. You deserve it. I got to know Martha through the Health Auxiliary. She was always so encouraging, full of ideas and loved the "Cookie Table" at our annual fund raiser. She would sit at the table and visit but also sell, sell, sell! If I had a question she had an answer. I shall miss her brilliant smile and holding her hand when I dropped by at the PCH. We that knew her should use her as an example of a faithful community worker. - Posted by: Teri Walker (friend) on: Feb 10, 2018
