BERNICE LORRAINE FERMAN (CHURA)
Born: Dec 10, 1941
Date of Passing: Feb 15, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERNICE LORRAINE FERMAN (CHURA) December 10, 1941 February 15, 2018 Peacefully, surrounded by her family, aged 76 (not the 39 she professed), Bernice Ferman passed away at Concordia Hospital on February 15, 2018. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Kay Chura; and her in-laws, Martin and Marge Ferman. She is survived by her husband, Adam, to whom she was married for 55 years, son David (Patrizia), her daughter Cathy (Brian) Paul; and grandchildren, Casey and Alexandra Paul; Sophie Moskalyk (sister), sister-in-law Carol Richter and her daughter Charlene, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts. Bernice was born in Winnipeg and spent her childhood years in the Point Douglas area. Singing in the St. Andrews Ukrainian Catholic Church choir and full participation in the activities of the church life was the beginning of a lifetime of full engagement with the church community that extended to Holy Eucharist and St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church. Bernice and Adam celebrated mass with the family and made wonderful friends. In the late 1950s, she attended St. John's High School and enthusiastically participated in many sports, such as track and field, and basketball. This is where she met Adam. They married on June 25, 1962. She was employed by the Toronto-Dominion Bank, then moved on to St. Boniface Hospital, first as a switchboard operator, and then ward clerk. She went on to work at River East Collegiate as a secretary. She continued to work and retired five times, finally retiring from the Manitoba Clinic. She loved working and made many close friends. She was a caring, compassionate person. No patient ever suffered alone. Mom loved to talk and tell all her stories about the goings on at the hospital, her trips, and her Vegas jaunts. She loved spending time with her family and "the Pugs", in the pool. Las Vegas was a perennial favourite, with road trips to Moose Jaw and Banff. Family was everything. Baba was the FBI! She wanted to know what was going on with everyone and wasn't afraid to ask questions and give advice. She loved the Jets, the Vikings and the Bombers or was it Saskatchewan? She called all the off-sides, whether they existed or not. She cheered loud enough to be hoarse, the next day, while always offering constructive advice, of course. Thank you to Very Rev. Mark Gnutel (officiating), Rev. Fr. Alan Wizinsky; Concordia Hospital, Dr. Ron Scrapneck, Dr. J. Sawchuk, Ally (nurse practitioner), and the dear nurses and aides of 225 East. We appreciate the many visitors who came to her bedside. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church, 35 Marcie St. (off Gilmore Avenue), Winnipeg, MB R2G 3S4. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Anne Memorial Icon Fund. Vichnaya Pamyat

Bernice used to administer my IV at MB clinic over the years. I got to hear her stories about Las Vegas and tell her mine about Shooting Star. She was a great lady with a bubbly outgoing personality. She will be missed by all who knew her. - Posted by: Debbi Taschuk (IV patient at MB Clinic) on: Feb 28, 2018

Our fond memories of those Valentine dinners with the teachers and spouses at Bernice's favorite restaurant will never be forgotten. As we waited for our pizza orders the guys discussed the latest Young and Restless highlights and the girls found their own conversation. Sending our love and deepest sympathy. Dear Adam, David, Cathy, and Family We wish we could turn back the clock, when we were all together. Laughing and talking till it was time we closed the restaurant. The stories that Table 10 could tell...... Bernice was a wonderful, very kind, and caring person. Quick to smile and laugh, she had a zest for Life!!!! Tony and I will cherish her friendship, and the memories of having dinner at Casa Grande every Friday night for almost 25 years with both Bernice and Adam. Bernice May God comfort you in his arms, and watch your family. We love you forever. Your Friends Tony and Angie - Posted by: Tony and Angie Grande (Friends) on: Feb 20, 2018

So sad to hear of Bernice passing and the heavy loss Adam and family now feel. Even in High School you could see the closeness both felt for each other, something that was shown to be rare. I once read that "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, but love leaves a memory that no one can steal." I wish I could offer more than condolences, but I'm at a loss for words at the sadness I, too, endure as a friend. - Posted by: Walt Makowski (St Johns High School Alumni) on: Feb 19, 2018

I would like to extend our deepest sympathy and regret to Adam, David, Cathy, and your families on the passing of Bernice. She was a great friend, and has brought many very happy memories over the past 48 years. Bernice was a wonderful and hard working nurse, as well as the matriarch of the family. I will miss the fabulous strawberry tarts that she prepared for the June/July fishing trips to the Whiteshell. Bernice was always a major supporter of our family and always cared about our well being. Our thoughts of support and caring go out to Adam and all of the family. Bernice will be missed greatly. Mom was a nurse at St Boniface Hospital for over 30 years. Later, she applied her skills at the Manitoba Clinic. Even she would have been impressed by the care that she received at Concordia Hospital! The doctors, nurses and aides were top notch! Even the Red River College Nursing Students who came to view a medical procedure being demonstrated on Mom were so caring and respectful. Mom was there in spirit...except she would have turned a 5 minute demo into a 30 minute chat! - Posted by: Cathy Paul (Daughter ) on: Feb 18, 2018
