PETER R. GOOSSEN 1927 - 2018 Our brother, uncle, and great-uncle, Peter R. Goossen was born to Peter D. and Helena R. Goossen in Greenland, Manitoba on July 30, 1927. He was the ninth child of 14 in the family. He peacefully left this earth on February 17, 2018 at the Maplewood Manor, Steinbach, Manitoba reaching the age of 90 years. He accepted Christ into his heart when he was 15, and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on December 20, 1942. Life brought him many challenges and struggles, but God was gracious to Pete in the last years. His childhood days were spent in the Greenland community where he took his schooling at the Greenland West School. He worked faithfully at home until his later teens and then went on to do land clearing in the Dugald, Manitoba region together with his brother Roy, and a friend Donald Toews. In the winter he worked for his brother George logging in the Whiteshell area. From there he went to Wade, Ontario to a lumber camp logging railway ties. Around 1953 he purchased Dick and Anne's place and farmed there for a number of years, followed by a few years of farming in Elma, Manitoba. He loved the solitude of the woods and spent many years living in various places being one with nature. He lived periodically in a cabin in the Crooked Creek, Alberta district. Eventually, due to physical needs, his nephews felt it was time he move into Maplewood Manor for the twilight years of his life. He received excellent care there for over 10 years. Left to cherish fond memories are his three brothers, Danny (Rosella), Roy (Gladys) of Abbotsford, BC and Robert (Florence) of Neepawa, MB, and two sisters-in-law, Doreen Goossen of Abbotsford, BC and Ellen Goossen of Fernitosh, AB. He was predeceased by his parents, five brothers, five sisters, and eight in-laws. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the Maplewood Manor staff for their outstanding, compassionate care, and to nephews, Ken, Larry, and Wendell for their involvement in Pete's later years. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at the Greenland Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Greenland, MB, with interment at the church cemetery. Viewing will be at the church prior to the service. Arrangements by Birchwood Funeral Chapel 1-204-346-1030 or 1-888-454-1030
