Date of Passing: Feb 22, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH RENATE HARMS Peacefully at Concordia Hospital, on Thursday, February 22, 2018, with her family by her side, Ruth passed away into the arms of her loving Saviour. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She is survived by her husband John of 47 years, three children, Ed (Vanessa), Lori (Stuart) and Mark; five grandchildren, Evan, Levi, Asher, Kaitlyn and Sarah; and numerous family and friends. She is predeceased by her parents and two siblings. Ruth was born on April 29, 1946 in Zaire (formerly Belgium, Congo) to missionary parents. She moved to Canada at a young age and grew up in Winnipeg where she went to school and attended Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church with her family. She accepted the Lord as her Saviour in her teen years and served him faithfully throughout her life. During her adult life, she attended and was actively involved in Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church. She worked for over 25 years in the Deli at The Marketplace on Henderson Highway. She loved her job, but more importantly she loved the people she worked with and those she served. Ruth had the most infectious smile and a twinkle in her eye. Anyone that met her could not help but smile when they saw her. Her joyful, giving attitude and servant's heart shone through all areas of her life. She was a ray of sunshine. We would like to say a special thank you to the doctors and nurses in the ICU at Concordia Hospital for their exceptional compassion and care at the end of her life. We would also like to thank all the staff at St. Boniface Hospital and Health Science Centre for their continued and attentive care during the duration of her illness. A huge thank you to all the wonderful people who have supported Ruth and our family in numerous ways. The funeral service will be held at Portage Avenue Church, 1420 Portage Avenue on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Luncheon and interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

My Grandma Ruth was a really nice person and a wonderful grandma, there are so many memories with her that I will never forget and I would just like to say "I will always love you Grandma" you will never leave my heart and you will always be by my side. I know if you can see this you would probably say Evan stop doing that its not necessary. I know that's exactly what you would say. I hope I get to see you soon, and I know that you will be waiting for me, but the times that I had with you in this world, were the best times that I will ever have. I remember when I was a little girl, my auntie Claudette lived next to Ruth and I used to go with her daughter Jennifer to look at the new kid on the block. Ruth was always so friendly to me. - Posted by: Janine Gagne (friend) on: Mar 10, 2018

The Harms have been our neighbours for 18 years. Our son has been friends with grandson Evan since they were 5 years old. Ruth was always so lovely and kind to us and especially Jake. Her garden was the envy of the neighbourhood, In the summer, whenever we had guests, I would always tell them to peek over the fence to admire Ruth's beautiful garden. Many hugs for John, Mark and Evan at this difficult time. Ruth will be missed but not forgotten.
