PAUL ANTHONY BALCAEN October 17, 1962 - February 28, 2018 It is with profound heartbreak and sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and good friend, on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 while snowmobiling in the trails surrounding Lee River, Lac du Bonnet. Paul will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 31 years, Dina, daughters Lindsay (Zach) and Reagan, son Evan (Larissa), parents, Fern and Harvey, brothers Blair (Heather), Mark (Caroline), and sister Caren Kelly (Greg). He will also be greatly missed by his extended family, work colleagues, and numerous friends, too many to list. Born in Ft Garry, Winnipeg, Paul lived there until recently when he and Dina finally realized their dream of building a house and moving out to Lee River. There's no doubt, Paul's favourite place to be was at the lake, spending summers there from the age of five with his family, making sure his own kids got to have the same experience he had growing up. He taught them to fish, boat, swim, snowmobile and to explore and enjoy the beauty of nature. Paul was an outgoing, fun-loving, down for anything type of guy. He had a larger than life personality and always made sure everyone had a good time. He had the unique ability to make friends with almost everyone he met. He loved to be surrounded by people and loved to entertain. All you had to do was show up and he had everything ready to go, everyone was welcome. Paul worked in the telecommunication industry for many years and used his entrepreneurial spirit and direct approach to push the boundaries. He was a mentor and friend to many and was a consistent high achiever. Although Paul's time was cut short, there is no doubt that he lived his life to the fullest and made a large impact on everyone he knew. Please join us in a Celebration of Life for Paul at the Holiday Inn South on Pembina Highway, Winnipeg, on Sunday, March 11 with an informal, drop in style gathering from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. We look forward to seeing the many people who loved Paul. Special thanks to the three men that found Paul, Stars Ambulance, Pinawa RCMP, Lee River Snow Riders Club, and to all those who have offered their love and support. Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • My sincere condolences to Paul's family. Although it has been many years, you are all still fondly remembered as I look back to the days growing up on Fletcher Crescent and the many good times spent with Mark, Blair, Caren and Paul, and the way Fern and Harvey opened their home and shared their friendship with my family. Amazing neighbors to have. My prayers and thoughts are with you, Paul's family and all of those who will miss him. • My deepest condolences to the Balcaen family and all that had Paul enter their life. I had the pleasure of working with Paul when I was at Avaya and he at Accord, then Unity. Paul was larger than life and an absolute pleasure to be around. His knowledge and out of the box actions ensured success to all in his presence. He taught me a lot and although it’s been years since our paths have crossed the news hit so hard. So very sad for this tragic accident but hope there is some comfort that he was in his happy place. I have fond memories of the gang at Accord and Paul as their leader. So many laughs were had. RIP Paul. - Posted by: Karen Kuefler (Colleague ) on: Mar 12, 2018

Haven’t seen him in quite some time but he always remained one of my most memorable friends. My deepest condolences to his wife and his children and his brothers & sisters and his parents as well and all of his extended family.
