MARY FRIESEN February 2, 1930 - March 6, 2018 On March 6, 2018, Mary passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord, with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her parents Johann and Helena Martens; brothers Jacob, John, Cornelius and Aron; sisters Nettie, Annie, Tina, Helen and Sara; and their spouses. She is survived by her husband Neil, of 66 years; daughters Helen, Marge (Eddie), Leona (James) and Gloria (Mark); grandchildren Andrea, Tyler (children Kaleigh, Kyrah and Mikayla), Darryl and Eileen (children Tyrell, Treyson, Samson and Ozell). Mom was born on February 2, 1930 in Morden, Manitoba. She attended Mountain City School until Grade 7. She then moved with her parents to Sidney Firdale District. In the fall of 1947, Mom met Dad and then began a courtship that cemented a lifetime of love, loyalty and respect. Mom and Dad married on July 5, 1951 in Firdale District. They moved to Carberry in 1952 and then on to Brandon in 1955. In 1961, they re-located to Austin, Manitoba and then to Winnipeg in 1970, where they bought their home and enjoyed many years of raising a family. Mom enjoyed gardening; she spent countless hours planting, weeding and canning. She was very skilled in sewing; she made clothing for her children and homemade comforters for those she loved. She was known for her cooking and baking. She relished in traditional meals while celebrating holidays and birthdays. Animals were also another source of joy for her, from the animals she took care of on the farm to household pets. Her greatest pride was always in her family and she was happiest when they were near. Mom and Dad took many trips with the girls when they were younger. They ventured to Mexico, Disneyland, Churchill and the West Coast. After the children had left home, they travelled to the East Coast and Nashville, Tennessee where they visited the Grand Ole Opry. Mom's connection to her family was strong and they spent much time (along with the children and grandchildren) at their farm near Austin, Manitoba. She was still very active and kept an impressive garden; she had a green thumb and could make anything grow. Mom was the kindest, most easy-going person. She expressed her love and affection for others by her actions, not necessarily her words. She had a strong, quiet faith. Her family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude and appreciation to the doctors and staff at Concordia Hospital for providing the most compassionate care during her last days. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Place of Grace Church, 1040 Beach Avenue, with viewing prior to service. Interment at Wheeler Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Union Gospel Mission, Place of Grace Church or a charity of your choice.

My sincere condolences on the loss of both your parents. I pray that memories of happier times will see you through your time of grief! "God gave us memory so we might enjoy roses in winter." I am a respected researcher of Mennonite genealogy, and would like to connect your loved ones to their/your family and ancestry, which I am unable to do fully given the information in their obituaries. My on-line project contains over 475,000 individuals, including more than 16,000 Friesens and 4,000 Martenses, but I cannot identify your grandparents' identities. Please contact me at an appropriate time if you are willing to share/exchange details. Thank you. It has been just over a month since my Gramma has been gone. I miss her and think about her every day. She was, and always will be, the world's BEST Gramma. To try to capture her spirit in a short description will never do her justice. She was one of the strongest people I have ever had the honour and privilege of knowing. I was so proud to be her granddaughter. The memories I have fill my heart with joy and love at the same time they break it. She meant something different to everyone in her life. She created a strong, independent, close and loving family and that will never have been in vain nor will it ever be forgotten. Our worlds will be different now that she is gone. I know she is up there with God, looking down on her family and watching over us. She is happy. I LOVE YOU GRAM. I WILL MISS YOU ALWAYS. UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN. - Posted by: Andrea (Granddaughter ) on: Apr 09, 2018
