HELENA BIALAS (née KROWIAK) February 3, 1924 - March 25, 2018 On March 25, 2018, at Holy Family Home in Winnipeg, our mother Helena Bialas passed away peacefully with her family at her side. She was predeceased by her husband, Petro; her son-in-law, Victor Horodynski; and by 12 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children: daughters, Mary (Wayne) Hadad, Donna Horodynski, and Regina ("Gina") Kobewka; her son John Bialas; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and her sister Cecylia Lobitz. Helena was born in Dobra, Western Ukraine on February 3, 1924 to Joseph and Kateryna (née Gizecski) Krowiak. As an adult, the kind sponsorship of her late sister Julia Lega made it possible for Helena to immigrate to Canada with her young family. There she became and remained an active member of Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral and the Ladies League, was actively involved with Institute Prosvita CYM and sang with the Dumka Choir. She loved to attend senior events, such as church teas and perohy making. Helena loved to travel, and her greatest enjoyment was visiting her family in the old country. Above all she loved her family and we will greatly miss our weekly Sunday dinners. Our mama the fashionista always took pride in her appearance, making sure she was properly attired with her hair just right, and was never seen without her lipstick even at the very end. Her last four years living at Holy Family Home were spent in safety and comfort thanks to the wonderful staff there, especially nurse Marci, to whom the family wishes to express their deep gratitude for their wonderful care of our mother. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helena's memory may be made to Holy Family Home, in care of Lubov Foundation, 1085 Main St., Winnipeg, MB R2W 1T9, or to a charity of your choice. Prayers will be held at Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 115 McGregor Street on Monday, April 2 at 7:00 p.m. and the Divine Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated by Rt. Rev. Msgr. Michael Buyachok on Tuesday, April 3 at Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
