Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES (JIM) EDWARD MAGAS, MMMCD2 Peacefully Jim passed away on April 7, 2018 at Health Sciences Centre. Jim leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Darryl (Joanne) and Trevor (Nicole); daughter Sandra; sisters, Lily Safiniuk of Oak Hammock, Elizabeth Laborde of Calgary and Lena Nichol (Elmer) also in Calgary; sister-in-law Anne of Cofield; brothers, Peter of Cranbrook and Ronald (Marianne) of Lacombe; granddaughters, Jessica, Katelynn and Ashley; grandson Jack; and great-grandson Jasper; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. Jim will also be lovingly remembered and missed by his dear friend Alice. Jim was predeceased by his father Alex; mother Mary; and brothers, Alexander and George. Jim was born in 1936 on a farm in Oak Hammock. After junior high school Jim worked in Winnipeg and for a short period in Medicine Hat. In 1958 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), retiring in 1992 after 34 years of service with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He then served an additional two years with the Reserves. During his military career Jim served in various areas: Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, Trenton, Winnipeg; with numerous detachments in Europe and Africa. Jim was inducted as a "Member of Military Merit" by the Governor General during a prestigious ceremony in 1988. With retirement Jim enjoyed golfing and occasionally assisting friends with everyday farm chores in Southern Manitoba. He was also involved with various activities at St. Ivan Suchavsky Cathedral of which he was a member for many years. Jim also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Prayers will be said on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg. Funeral Rite will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. also at the chapel with Rev. Fr. Evan Maximiuk officiating. Interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street.
