ROBERT (BOB) JOHNSTON 1949 - 2018 Robert (Bob) Johnston passed away peacefully on Monday, April 16, 2018. Bob was born in St. Catharines, Ontario on July 30, 1949 to William and Dorothy Johnston. Bob will be greatly missed by his wife Valerie "Val"; children, Chad (Natasha) and Jenna (Karl); grandchildren, Kieran, Cedrick, Blake and Alyssa; mother Dorothy; brother William (Sandy); sisters, Cindy (Jack) and Shirley; in-laws, Brian Casper (Shelia), Doug Casper (Lynn), Janice Sokolyk (Taras) and Wayne Casper (Diane); and many nieces, nephews and friends. Bob was predeceased by his father William, and sisters, Sheila and Lynn. Dad moved to Dominion City in 1969 and met the love of his life, Val Casper. They married in 1972 and shortly after started their family. When we were little the family enjoyed camping, boating and fishing trips. Dad treasured his time coaching us hockey and ringette, being a member of our school parent associations and volunteering at the community centres. Mom and Dad realized their dream in 2004 when they bought their "little piece of heaven", a cottage at Grindstone Provincial Park. Dad continued to be active in the community and at the cottage. He played old time hockey, an avid pickle ball player, and a board member for the Grindstone and Manitoba Provincial Park Cottage Associations. Nothing gave Papa more pleasure than spending time with his beloved children and grandchildren, especially at the cottage. They spent hours enjoying the outdoors fishing, snowmobiling and tubing. Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberly Ave., Winnipeg, MB. Interment will follow at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined, due to a medical condition. Donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Val and Jenna, I am so very sorry for your loss. Had I known I would have been at the service, but didn't find out until I attended Anna Sanduliak's retirement on April 26th. Terry was out of town and just must have forgotten to let me know. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. Most Sincerely, Joan - Posted by: Joan Knowles (I worked with Val and Jenna) on: May 05, 2018

Jenna, Val & family, we met you when Jenna & Jessica became friends thru BW school. We were very fond of your family and spent time together as our parents of our child's friend. we met out in the White Shell and at school activities. Jenna & Jessica went their separate ways in high school so we lost touch but never forgot your friendship. I am so sorry to hear of Bob's passing and send our love and condolences to you and your family. - Posted by: Jackie Armstrong (Black) (friend thru Jenna & Jessica) on: May 04, 2018

Dear Val. We just wanted you to know that we attended the lovely service that was held for your dear Bob last Saturday. We never did meet you or your son & daughter as there were many who knew the three of you well & we felt those dearest to you deserved the bigger privilege of your time that day. We loved what your son & daughter shared in their speeches. Your Bob was a lucky man to have all of you, as you certainly were to have him. We had gotten to know Bob as a friend through pickleball. In fact, he gave us our introduction & instruction in how to play the game, which as your son spoke of at the service......is a game of fun & finesse. Bob always told me not to say "sorry" & he had a world of patience. He was such a fun guy to play with & against & we had many chuckles with him about his wicked spin on the ball. Oh, did we have fun with him! We already miss him so much. Just wanted to share that with you. Heaven has one more angel up there watching over you! Most sincerely & with our deepest condolences to you & your loving family....Chris & Dave. - Posted by: Chris Carpenter and Dave Henry (Friends through pickleball) on: Apr 25, 2018

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Val, and your family. I met Bob with his arm in a sling at the Polo Park Canad Inn a few years ago while organizing what is now known as the Manitoba Provincial Parks Cabin Owners Association. Bob was a strong advocate for cottage owners of all walks of life. Bob was a great listener and team player. We will certainly miss his ideas, his presence and his warm and infectious smile. God bless! - Posted by: Ronald and Judy Smith (cottage owner friends ) on: Apr 20, 2018

We were so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Although it's been many, many years since we have seen you both, we have very fond memories of the great times spent at the hockey rinks cheering our boys on.
