Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRENA ROMANIAK January 16, 1927 - April 24, 2018 In the early evening of April 24, 2018, our beloved Mama, Babcia, and friend was called to eternal rest. Mama was predeceased by her husband, Stefan; parents, Vasyl and Justyna Lesiw; her brother, Mykola; and by numerous relatives and friends. Left to mourn are her daughters, Daria (Rostyslav) and Roma (Allan); her cherished granddaughter Andrea (Justin); and family in Canada, the United States, Ukraine, and Poland. Mama was born on January 16, 1927 in Drohobych, Western Ukraine. Shortly after marrying our Tato in 1944, the couple fled the devastation in their homeland. In 1948, they arrived at Pier 21 and made their way to a new home in Winnipeg. She and Tato operated Aberdeen Grocery for many years, retiring in 1982. Mama loved to sing and was a member of several choirs, including the O. Koshetz Choir. She was an avid reader of books in several languages. Mama was a wonderful cook, usually making up her own recipes, and was happy when everyone was eating. Her tortes were legendary. She also enjoyed the occasional visit to the casino. Mama was very independent and enjoyed her last home at Selo Villa where she made many friends and faithfully attended the chapel. The family wishes to thank the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service as well as the Seven Oaks Hospital Emergency unit for their care and compassion. Funeral Divine Liturgy and Panakhyda will be celebrated by Rt. Rev. Msgr. Michael Buyachok and Rev. Fr. Volodymyr Bashutskyy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 115 McGregor St., followed by a reception at the church hall and interment at All Saints Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Manitoba Branch, 1-452 Dovercourt Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3Y 1G4; to the Leo Mol window restoration project at Sts.
