HELEN STRUSS (nee DUMA) September 16, 1921 - May 18, 2018 It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved grandmother and great-grandmother, Helen Struss on May 18, 2018, at the age of 96, at East Gate Lodge. Helen is survived by her grandson Danny (Sarah) and granddaughter Holly (Victor); her wonderful great-grandchildren, Justyn (friend Isabelle), Cameron, Emily, Evan, and Maria Jade. Her sister Dallas, and brothers, Tony (Elsie) and Casey, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Joe, her son Bob and daughter-in-law Carol, her mother (Julia), father (Anthony); brothers, Frank (Betty), Joe (Rose), Gene, Larry (Sally) and Edward (Alexis); and sister Carol (Paul). Grandma was a wonderful gardener. She would spend hours in her garden, if you couldn't find grandma, you knew she was in her garden. With those fresh vegetables grandma made the best homemade soup, borscht and pickled beets, also her amazing green beans. Grandma also enjoyed making perogies. She would always have a care package ready with her yummy food when you came to visit. Helen and her husband Joe lived in Ladywood, MB, where they raised their son Robert. They moved to Beausejour in the early 1990s. Grandma enjoyed knitting. She would always have a pair of mitts or a new toque made for you when you came to visit. Viewing will be held on Friday, May 25 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel. Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 26 at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 516 Atlantic Ave., Beausejour, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary Roman Catholic Church. When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure.
