Date of Passing: May 29, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM VERASKY Sadly, on May 29, 2018 at 1:37 p.m., our husband, father and poppy passed away, at the Concordia Hospital, at the age of 80. He leaves to mourn his wife of 51 years, Linda; son Billy (Karen, Ty and Haileigh); daughter Patti (Kelly, Landon and Autumn); and sister April (Andrea, Derrick, Braiden and Avery). He was predeceased by his father Willy who passed in the Second World War, and his mother Freda (Gross). Employed by the City of Winnipeg Parks and Rec for 31 years he enjoyed the colleagues and citizens with whom he worked. Growing up in the North End, Bill attended King Edward, Isaac Newton and Sisler schools. In early years, he participated in Cubs, Scouts and Sea Cadets to honour Prince Phillip in B.C. An avid basketball player, he was inducted into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame in 1998 for playing with Sisler Spartans 1957 to 1958 and MHSAA Hall of Fame. Hobbies included: HO model trains, crosswords, reading, television, and the Minnesota Vikings. Gardening photos were annually compiled. Coaching / transporting kids to games and enjoying grandchildren were important. We fondly remember with love, a kind, witty, happy, artistic man who taught us to laugh at ourselves. Cremation has taken place and no service will be held. Special thanks to the doctors, staff and fire / paramedics who have helped Bill. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Canada or please consider signing your organ donation card. "Never forgotten, always in our hearts." www.voyagefuneralhomes.com

I have very fond memories of working with Bill during my early career years in the former Parks and Recreation Department. Bill was always willing to share advice and a laugh and was very well regarded by the community he served. My deepest condolences to Mrs. Verasky, Billy Jr. and the entire family. - Posted by: Ken McKim (co-worker) on: Jun 12, 2018

Dear Verasky family: I am so sorry for your loss. I knew "Billy" through my brother, Bob Corbitt. We all grew up in the north end, and have only fond memories of the close friendship my brother Bob and Bill shared. I remember that Bill was always laughing, telling a joke or suggesting to my brother that they should order a pizza. Please accept my deepest sympathy...be strong for one another, and always keep Bill in your hearts. Willy and myself go back many years, (1964) as employees of the City of Winnipeg, Parks & Recreation Dept., (Recreation Section), we worked together, hunted geese together and socialized together. Bill was a great person to work with, I don't believe that I heard one negative comment from the general public that he had associated with during his stay with the City. During the last years before I retired, Bill and myself worked together in the Sports section, for the St. Boniface/St. Vital Community Parks and Recreation Dept., after retirement, we stayed in touch through phone calls and running into one another getting our prescriptions Costco. Bill was one of the "good Guys". Rest well, Bill. So Sorry for your loss Linda, Patti and Billy, and the rest of the Family, Neil Zachary (Zack) - Posted by: Neil Zachary (Friend and fellow employee) on: Jun 03, 2018
