Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLCOL LARRY BEST "Fighter Pilot Extraordinaire" With a very heavy heart we are deeply saddened by the loss of our amazing Father, Husband, Opa and Great-Opa. After a courageous battle with cancer, Larry left us peacefully on May 27, 2018 at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 79. He was predeceased by his infant son John. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 59 years, Lila (Debbie); five daughters, three sons-in-law, seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends. Larry was born in Toronto on June 21, 1938. Soon after high school he met and married the love of his life "Dearie" on April 25, 1959. He then began what would be a 36-year career with the R.C.A.F. He flew many aircrafts, but his passion was flying the F86 Sabre and CF104 Starfighter Jet. He assumed many commanding positions in Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and USA. While raising a family and moving 31 times throughout his career, he continued his education. He attended two years at the CF Command and Staff College, achieved a BA in Psychology at University of Manitoba and MSc in Business Administration at Boston University. He will always be remembered for his sharp wit, story-telling, jokes, love of people and animals, sports, card and board games and playing tricks. He cherished the family camping trips and excursions throughout North America and Europe. He will be missed more than words can say. A celebration of his life will take place on June 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. at Henderson Highway, Winnipeg, MB. A reception will follow immediately thereafter. www.voyagefuneralhomes.com

We remember the Bosol Ball games Larry organized. They were a fun event and a great team building exercise. He also was the producer/director for numerous “Canadian Skits” at Christmas time that were always well received by the rest of our American squadron. He was a superb boss. - Posted by: Art & Susan Brown (Co-worker with Larry in Colorado Springs (1013th then 21st Crew Training Squadron) 1991-1994) on: Jun 16, 2018

I served with Col. Best on 417 Sqn in the late 1970s, and if I recall correctly he was the pilot on my first backseat ride in a 104. Great memories. RIP Sir. - Posted by: Rick Thomson (Comrade) on: Jun 14, 2018
