Date of Passing: Jun 09, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN VERMETTE January 29, 1950 - June 9, 2018 Sorrowfully, after years battling with cancer, John passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 68. Jean Joseph Ludovic or "Johnny V" as he was known to many, retired from CP Rail as an engineer. His work was important to him which provided him with friendships that he maintained until the end. Johnny did not make friends easily or quickly. He was a bit of a lone wolf but once you became a member of his "pack", you had a lifelong friend and a very colourful one, to say the least. Whether it was about cars, music, sports or politics, Johnny usually had an opinion. You just needed a jackhammer to get it out of him. Although a bit of a recluse, John loved travelling especially to Acapulco, Mexico with some of his friends. John was an avid collector of things that gave him pleasure: music CDs, comic books, hockey cards, brass and dragon figurines to name a few. As an individual, Johnny was also known to be a very responsible person, especially his finances. He abhorred owing money. John was the oldest of five siblings, Pat (Lee), Bonnie (Ian), Heather (Paul) and Gordon (Jackie). He is survived by his stepfather Scotty, many nieces, nephews, and special friends. He was predeceased by his mother Fernande, father Roland, nephew Johnathan, and long-time friend and companion "Pappy". The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Riverview Health Centre for taking exceptional care of John. A small family interment will take place at a later date. John and I lost touch so many years ago. But that didn’t change the gratitude I had for him. When I was at my lowest he was there !!! A true friend in every sense. I will miss John and am sure he will pop into my memory every once in a while for a good chuckle. R.I.P.....JOHNNY “V”. - Posted by: Jim ottenbreit (Friend ) on: Jun 19, 2018

I have many memories of good times from days past and present, and you were always so quiet, I did the talking for both of us usually! But you did the smiling, and the little chuckles! I will miss you Johnny! You fought a long fight, may your battling days be over, RIP and enjoy your freedom. Say Hi to my special angel and the rest of our family up there, until I see you again, love Nancy - Posted by: Nancy Ewanchuk Allum Selk (cousin) on: Jun 19, 2018

John & I were living as neighbors and as a product of St. Pierre I knew some Vermettes. We talked quite a bit. I visited him 3 times in St. B hospital. I found him in a good mood and eating well. I was totally surprised when I learnt he had been moved to Riverview AND very saddened by his passing. My sincere sympathies! - Posted by: Ronald Valois (neighbour) on: Jun 18, 2018

Hugs and prayers for Jonny and his family, he was indeed a quiet man. Enjoyed listening to him talk about politics and hockey. - Posted by: Scott and Sheila (Family ) on: Jun 17, 2018

Missing you my brother. You were a true fighter, a real warrior right until the end. You will always be a pillar of strength and a hero to me. What I’ll miss the most is the little grunt and squished up face you would make every time I’d say I love you and kiss you good bye, but you always kissed me back. Soar with angels Johnny and take good care of my angel Johnathan. - Posted by: Heather (Sister) on: Jun 16, 2018
