MARION GRACE LAURIE During the wee hours of Saturday, June 2, 2018, just weeks before her 94th birthday, Marion Laurie passed away peacefully, in her sleep, after a brief illness at Park Manor Personal Care Home. Marion was born in Winnipeg on July 17, 1924 to Alice and Dave Cook. Mom was the fourth child of 10 brothers and sisters. She was a very hard worker even at an early age and cared for her younger siblings with a tender and joyful heart. This gave her immense satisfaction. Mom sincerely enjoyed working for both the Fort Gary Hotel and Eatons. On June 1, 1946, Mom married Lawrence Laurie. They resided in Winnipeg, Morden and Transcona with their children Nancy and Dave. Marion was an active member of the Transcona Memorial United Church and the Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed golfing, curling, cards, knitting, crocheting, riding her bicycle, poetry, playing piano and could sing a song for any occasion. Mom was especially known for her culinary talents in the kitchen, namely her homemade buns. She cooked numerous meals to support school and community events. Many summers were shared with her eldest sister Edna and family at Gimli. Marion leaves to mourn her children, Nancy and Dave (Elaine); six grandchildren, Kimberly Derksen, Chris Derksen (Kristina), Derek Derksen (Karey), Steve Laurie (Stacy), Kevin Laurie (Lorraine) and Darren Laurie (Madison); five great-grandchildren; along with siblings, Nowlan Cook (Joan), Audrey Roberts (Donald) and Margaret Thomsen; sisters-in-law Evon Cook, Gladys Cook, Ruth Cook, Lee Cook, Bernice Cable and brother-in-law Jack Dick. Marion was predeceased by her husband Lawrence (2006); siblings, Edna, Evelyn, Raymond, Robert, Carl and Byron; in-laws, Hilda Cook, Joanne Cook, Francis Laurie, George Ralston, Arthur Thomsen, Ronald and Dorothy Laurie, Joan Dick and Tom Cable. A huge thank you to the staff at Park Manor for their years of care, compassion and love. At Mom's request, a family Celebration of Life was held on June 6 at the Transcona Legion. An interment in Millbrook cemetery followed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mom's memory to Transcona Memorial United Church. www.voyagefuneralhomes.com
