NADIA MELNYK November 25, 1921 - July 3, 2018 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Nadia Melnyk, aged 96 years, on Tuesday July 3, 2018 at Holy Family Home in Winnipeg. Nadia was born on November 25, 1921 in the city of Stryj in Western Ukraine to Sophia Jablonska and Iwan Romanowskyj. The eldest of six children, she was sister to Steffa, Vlodzia, Irena, Marta and brother Bohdan. After completing her primary education, Nadia attended vocation school where she attained certification in hairdressing. Full time employment followed after a successful internship at a local hair salon. It was there she met the love of her life - Olexa Melnyk - who was a barber at the same salon. Nadia and Olexa married on June 4, 1939. In 1950, they immigrated to Canada with daughter Wolodymyra. Before settling in Winnipeg, they spent eight happy, productive years in St. Lazare, MB, a little French town near the Saskatchewan border. In 1958, they relocated to Winnipeg and became members of The Ukrainian Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral of Sts. Vladimir and Olga; and were affiliated with The League for Ukraine's Liberation, The Ukrainian Canadian Institute Prosvita and SUM-Ukrainian Youth Association. Nadia leaves to cherish her memory her children, Wolodymyra Kramarczuk (Myron), Andrew Melnyk (Nadia) and Anna Maria (Mary) Stefaniuk (George); grandchildren, Kalyna (Myron), Motria (Elmer), Dennis (Shelly), John, Adam (Christine), Maryna and Tymon (Ashley); and great-grandchildren, Areta, Roksanna, Oles, Quin, Luke, Quinn, Kayda and Oksana. In addition to her parents, Nadia was predeceased by her husband Olexa on December 29, 2005, her siblings, and her nine month old infant daughter Iryna, for whom she had a special place in her heart. Nadia was a private person, kind, considerate, good natured and in her element and happiest when she was involved with her family. She will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched. Panakhyda and Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 7 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Heartfelt thanks are extended to Dr. P. Connelly, Doctors T. and A. Babick, Holy Family Home and the staff of Sacred Heart unit for their compassionate, tender care of our mother and to Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok for his pastoral care.
