HILDA SUDERMAN DICK
Date of Passing: Jul 08, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHILDA SUDERMAN DICK Peacefully after a long and beautiful life, Hilda passed away on July 8, 2018. Hilda was born in Gnadenfeld, Russia in 1925. Her parents, Abram and Maria Suderman, together with John and Mathilda, immigrated to Canada just after she was born. Her dad had been a teacher in Russia and he obtained a teaching job in Rosenhoff (Rosenort), Manitoba. Hilda grew up surrounded by her family and friends, many of whom she stayed connected to her whole life. When her dad became ill, the family moved to Winnipeg and at the age of eight, her beloved father passed away. This had a huge impact on her life. She had to drop out of school in grade eight to help her mother financially. As one who walked on the sunny side of the street, she accepted this responsibility without complaint, and loved to take the street car to work and to Eaton's. Here she was able to indulge her lifelong love of window shopping. Her church community was always an integral part of her life. She joined the choir where she met a handsome young man from Alberta. They fell in love, got married and remained madly in love with each other for 61½years. They adopted four children, whom they loved dearly, maintaining that they were all a special gift from God. They loved and unconditionally accepted each spouse and grandchild that was added to the family. Their care and love has been a fantastic gift to us all. Hilda was the consummate homemaker and hostess, providing a loving home where everyone was welcomed, and no one could leave without a cup of tea and fresh baking. As deacons in the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church and later the McIvor Ave Mennonite Brethren Church, Hilda and Abe cared for the sick and elderly, and often invited new families over for meals to help them feel welcome in the community. Mom's motto was to live with a heart of gratitude, generosity and positivity, after all God had given her so much. Through difficulties, health issues and life challenges that she and Abe faced, she never wavered from her attitude of viewing each situation with optimism for the future. That strong faith sustained her when her beloved Abe passed away in 2015. She moved into Kildonan House where she embraced her new life, joining old friends, quickly making new ones, even learning to watch Winnipeg Blue Bomber football and playing Bingo, which she enjoyed immensely. Thank you to her friends and the special staff who enriched her last years at Kildonan House, and to Seven Oaks Hospital, and Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg Inc for their exceptional care in her last days. Special thanks to Irina and Justina for their loving care and attention. Left to cherish precious memories of mom are children, Richard (Debbie), Ron, Ingrid (Reynold), Val, and Mary Ellen; grand-children, Kellen (Rhae) Nelson (Maria), Jamison (Paulina), Meredith, Reid, Brittany, Corey, Nigel, and Fiona; great-granddaughters, Nevaeh and Chloe. Hilda was predeceased by her beloved husband Abe in 2015. Mom loved to celebrate every occasion. We celebrate your life well lived, you will be greatly missed. Funeral service will be held at McIvor Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church, 200 McIvor Avenue, on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 10:30 a.m., with viewing prior to the service. An interment to follow reception at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
