JOAO VALENTE It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our father and husband, Joao Valente, on August 3, 2018, at Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 89, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Joao leaves behind his wife Natalia, his son Filipe (Janet), his daughter Cristina, grandson Sebastian, his sister Elvira, and many nieces and nephews. Joao was born in Chavez, Portugal and then moved to Brazil for 20 years before deciding to immigrate to Canada in 1973. Joao worked for CN Rail for 25 years and retired in 1994. In his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and yard work, and was loved by all the neighbours. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 10 at 10:00 a.m. with viewing one hour prior at Immaculate Conception Parish, 181 Austin St. N. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg MB R3E 0V9.
