HELENA PETERS March 11, 1925 - August 11, 2018 Helena passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 11, 2018. Helena was born in Russia and immigrated with her family to Canada at age four. She called Grassy Lake, Alberta home for many of her childhood years. As an adult, Helena pursued many different areas of education including teaching. Helena taught in northern Manitoba where she met her husband Jacob Peters. After raising a family, Helena served God by volunteering with many local ministries. Following her husband's passing, she pursued her lifelong dream to open an orphanage in Africa, pouring her whole self into it. Even in her later years, Helena continued to serve God through volunteer work and prayer. She was predeceased by her husband Jake; parents, David and Aganetha; as well as her brothers, David, Walter and Rudy. Helena will be lovingly missed by her sisters, Martha and Agnes; sisters-in-law, Mary, Lydia and Ann; children, Allen (Sherry), David (Anita) and Lydia (Howard); along with 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Special thanks to the staff at Fred Douglas Heritage House and Riverview Health Centre for their care and support during this difficult time. Funeral service will be held on Monday, August 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Provencher Community Church, 230 Provencher Blvd; viewing to be held half hour prior to service.
