ROLANDE HELENE TOGNET
Born: Aug 11, 1932
Date of Passing: Aug 16, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROLANDE HELENE TOGNET (née BOULET) August 11, 1932 - August 16, 2018 Peacefully on August 16, 2018, with family by her side, Rolande passed away at the Riverview Health Centre. She was predeceased by her husband Albert in 1978, and brothers, Gerard and Roland. She leaves to mourn, her four children and their families: Denis (Penny), Ginette (Derrick), Lynne (Atle) and Patricia (Mike), and her grandchildren, Matthew, Emily, Sophi, Bianca and Jacob. She is survived by her siblings, Edouard, Edmond, Hector, Rita, Richard, Marcel and Donald, their families including in-laws and many nieces and nephews. She was born in Dunrea, Manitoba to Aimé and Germaine (Bisson) Boulet. From a young age, Rolande was driven by compassion and caring for those around her. As a teenager, Rolande tended to her ailing grandfather. After his passing, she moved to Winnipeg and began working in retail at places like Man with an Axe. It was during this time that Rolande learned and modelled a keen eye for fashion - she was the lady who had a scarf for every occasion. As it was natural for Rolande to be in the helping profession, she later transitioned into healthcare and found her calling as a nurse's aide at the Taché Nursing Centre. Rolande met Albert, they married in 1954 and together they built a home and a family in Saint-Boniface. Above all else, she valued family and the time she shared with them. And so, after being widowed, Rolande devoted herself to raising her children with these same values. Even though Rolande was a home-body, she followed them to the far corners of the earth. Who knows if she would have ever made it to the Middle East without a daughter there to visit. Led by compassion and benevolence, Rolande stayed active in her community by volunteering. She began years ago, with the Centre Flavie-Laurent and Winnipeg Harvest, and continued giving even through to preparing meal trays at the Résidence Despins - her last home in Saint-Boniface. Special thanks to Lise Collette-Proulx, the kind soul who was there for her in the last weeks, Palliative Care, and the very empathetic team at 3E Riverview Health Centre. In honouring our mother's wishes, there will not be a funeral service for Rolande. Instead, a private interment will be held at a later date. Thank you for keeping our mother, and how she touched your lives, close in your hearts, thoughts, and prayers. So sorry for the loss of your mother (and grandmother). While I know that Rolande had a full rich life and lived to see her children grown and successful in life and in their relationships. As a family there is a richness of memories and stories that makes the loss both intimate and painful and universally understood. And to our friend Ginette (and Derek and Jacob) much love to you as we know how your mother means to you. - Posted by: Joy Albuquerque (Friend of Ginette and Derek) on: Aug 27, 2018

We were very fortunate to become friends with Rolande. She was a warm and lovely woman. We looked forward to spending time with her and having her over for dinner when she came Ottawa. We enjoyed having her visit Quebec City with Ginette and her family and kept in touch with Xmas cards, birthday notes and the occasional facetime. She will be missed. Our thoughts are with the family. - Posted by: Louise Gilles and Alexandre (Friends ) on: Aug 23, 2018

I was saddened to learn of the loss of Rolande. I know she was a most loved, most special mom to her children/ grandchildren. As a friend of Ginette's I always enjoyed chatting with her. I remember her as kind, intelligent, warm and interested in those around her. She reached out when my daughter was ill, sending cards, gifts and prayers. She was a lovely soul and will be dearly missed by all those who knew her. xoxo - Joie and family - Posted by: Joie Zeglinski (Friend) on: Aug 21, 2018

I have often thought of Rolande over the years since working side by side with her at Tache Nursing Centre. That is because of the impact she had on me. She was one of the kindest, most caring people I have known over the years. She was about twenty years older than me, and I often came to her for advice, knowing she would be fair and compassionate. She holds a fond place in my heart. Then when her husband Albert died, she would call me and we would talk. I believe he was truly the love of her life. Sincere condolences to the family and other loved once on this profound loss. - Posted by: Lorraine Buchanan (Co-worker at Tache Nursing Centre) on: Aug 21, 2018
