Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEC KIRSHENBAUM It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather on Saturday, July 28, 2018 with his family by his side at the Health Sciences Center at the age of 80. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 56 years Mildred Kirshenbaum, son Lorrie (Dianne) grand-children, Brooke and Justin, son Barry (Kim) granddaughter Eryn and daughter Ricki (Tim) grandsons, Daniel and Samuel. Alec was predeceased by his parents Avrum and Miriam Kirshenbaum. Alec was born July 27, 1938 and immigrated to Canada from Lublin, Poland when he was 10 years old. The son of a tailor, the family worked hard to build a new life in Winnipeg. Alec's strong moral upbringing taught him that perseverance, hard work and a kind heart would take him far in life and it did. Alec always wanted to be an actor, but life commitments took him in another direction. He graduated from DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago. Upon returning to Winnipeg he attended a youth dance where by chance he met Mildred the girl he had briefly met some 10 years earlier when he and his parents first immigrated to Canada. Alec was immediately smitten with Mildred and knew that one day he would marry her. On July 8, 1962 Alec and Mildred were married, and soon after Alec opened his business Alec's TV & Electronics on Salter Street where he was known as "Your TV's best friend". Through the years Alec's TV relocated to Main Street, Leila and Arlington, it was a staple of the north end. After 35 years and the decision to close Alec's TV, he decided to do call outs for the Winnipeg Free Press, which he did right up until his passing. He loved getting to talk to people all day long and make them laugh and then hopefully get them to sign up for "The Press" which they always did. Alec loved to travel to Florida, Mexico, and Hawaii. He loved the sun and strolling along the beach. Family was most important to Alec he was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. He loved cottage life at Winnipeg Beach and teaching his kids and grandkids to boat, fish, water ski, and camp. Alec had a big heart and was a hopeless romantic. He adored his wife Mildred and loved her dearly, watching them dance particularly the Jive was truly magical. Alec was always quick to tell a joke, some funnier than others but he always left you smiling. Even after a diagnosis of multiple myeloma, he stayed positive and lived each day as it came, to its fullest, with no regrets, with his best friend Mildred by his side. A month before his passing, Alec knew it was his time, although our hearts were not ready to say good bye, he assured us it was his time. Until we meet again, we love you. Funeral took place at Etz Chayim congregation on August 1, 2018 with burial at Rosh Pina Cemetery. The family wishes to thank all of those who provided their love and support, donations of food, visits and phone calls, they are much appreciated.
