JOHN EDWARD FRANCIS HUDEK April 12, 1946 - September 4, 2018 Peacefully, and surrounded by family, after a steadfast battle with cancer, John Edward Francis Hudek died the morning of September 4, 2018. He is survived by his loving soulmate, Irene and their children, Michael, Jeanne (Karsten), Katherine (Stephen) and Sara (Kurt), as well as grandchildren, Tobias, Sophia, Carter, Michael, Emmett and Brielle, his siblings, Mary Forster (Ken), Joan Embleton (Dwight), Henry (Vivian Chabot), Gordon (Cleo Fletcher), Christine Vieweg, Philip (Kim, nee Chapman), and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father Edward Hudek, mother Christine Hudek (nee Chamard), brother Bill Hudek, mother-in-law Marie Jeanne Smith (nee Grimard), father-in-law Edouard Smith, brother-in-law Sandi Mullick, and daughter-in-law Carole Hudek (nee Yaskiw). John was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and grew up on the family farm in Hafford, Saskatchewan. As the big brother of seven siblings, he quickly learned the lessons of responsibility and hard work. When his family moved to Winnipeg in 1956, John (then known as Eddie) began to attend Our Lady of Victory School, where he met Irene. His post-graduate studies earned him a Diploma in Agriculture from the University of Manitoba and a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan. John applied his engineering knowledge to many pranks pulled with his Aggie friends in university. A man of many vocations and a creative innovator, John was an agricultural representative, farmer, beekeeper, engineer, product tester and designer. Agriculture was his passion. He later applied his knowledge and experience to nurture, fix and maintain everything around him, from plants to machines. Like a honeybee, John was constantly working on projects, usually to the benefit of others, like restoring a Model A car, and construction ventures with his family. He was a giving person, who always had time to teach, listen and help. His actions and choices in life exemplified his values. He taught his children, of whom he is really proud, how to put family first and to work hard for the betterment of your family and community with a degree of humour. Like Dad said, "Life isn't fair; when you get lemons, make lemonade." A memorial service will be held at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave., Beausejour, MB on Thursday, September 13 at 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life will follow at Great Woods Park. Thank you to the outstanding members of his medical care team and to family and friends who have supported us through this journey. Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I know we lost touch over the years but I want to express how sorry to hear that John had been so sick and has now found some peace. He was a wonderful individual who lived life the way he wanted to. He was considerate of others and loved his family. We shared a house in Russell for some months while he was starting his career, and we had some long discussions about life and politics. I am sure he will find many soulmates in heaven. He has just gone on ahead and the rest of us will catch-up in good time. - Posted by: andrew dickson (friend) on: Sep 12, 2018

  • Irene, Michael, Jeanne, Katherine, Sara and family- what a gift John was, not only to us, but to so many people he touched through his work with Serena. He was a teacher, a mentor, and a role model! His generosity by sharing his time while on the board, and with clients has established a concrete foundation that has grown into an ongoing legacy. A man of Much Goodness, may he Rest in Peace. Irene and family, our sincere condolences and sympathy. Much love, Janice and Todd - Posted by: Todd and Janice Dobson (friend) on: Sep 11, 2018

  • Irene and family I can't begin to express the pain I know you must be feeling. We will be together again someday. Au revoir John you will be greatly missed. I loved your quick wit and tell it like it is attitude, like the time you told my sister about her King James Bible. You are a kind and gentle soul and Heaven is a better place because you are there. All my love Lucie - Posted by: Lucie Nicolas (cousin) on: Sep 11, 2018

  • Dear Irene and family, our hearts go out to all of you at this difficult time. John was truly a man of intelligence, world history, a good listener, hard worker, pride and lived his life to the fullest every day. He was a true fighter right till the end. Irene in life many people never find the love and respect you and John had for each other and that is truly a gift. The world is a better place with having a man like John in it and you to share his life with. You are all truly blessed and are in our thoughts and prayers. • Sincere condolences to you, Irene, and all. I heard of his serious illness at his dad's funeral. I will not be able to attend his memorial as I have a funeral for a college classmate in P.E.I. the same day. God rest his soul! - Posted by: Fr. Art Seaman (Friend) on: Sep 08, 2018
