(MABEL) RUTH STOYKA (nee MOAR) 1927 - 2018 On August 29, 2018, after her third bout with cancer, family and friends bid Mom a loving farewell as she set off on her journey to join those who have passed before her. Mom will be lovingly missed by her children, James (Marcie), Ken (Carol), Barb (José) and grandchildren: Jeff, Ramlah, Stephanie (Shelby), Chenille (Travis), Kaitlyn (Taylor), Mary (Ernie), Brendin, Lindsay, and John as well as by her sisters, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends. Her great-grandson Eli will especially miss his Baba's hugs. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Stephen, her two daughters, Deb (Beba) and Cathy and her son Michael. Mom was loving, compassionate, stubborn, tough, resourceful and generous to a fault and she was dearly loved by friends and family alike. Ruth met Steve, her lifelong love and best friend who she married in 1947 and together, they celebrated 59 years of marriage before Steve's passing. In 1959, Ruth and Steve moved from Dauphin to Winnipeg, with four children in tow whereupon they added two more kids for a total of six. She was known as "Mom" to many, with the Stoyka house serving as a home base for all of her adopted family, friends and kids' cousins alike. Nothing made Mom happier than having everyone under one roof with Grandma and Poppa, enjoying a home cooked meal of perogies and Mom's signature butter tarts. In Winnipeg, Mom worked for a number of years as a waitress/bartender in the hospitality industry at a few local hotels before embarking on a career with AFM at River House, where she worked until she retired at age 77. Mom also celebrated 40 years of sobriety in January, a proud achievement for her and her family. Her passing will not soon be forgotten by those she loved and by those who loved her. Many thanks for all the compassionate care that Mom received during her final months from all of her health care workers. A celebration of Ruth's life is to be held for her family and friends on Sunday, October 14 at 1:00 p.m. at The John Osborne #1 ANAVETS, 300-1395 Ellice Ave. (Entrance on Empress St. across from Wal Mart). Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends who wish, may make a donation, in Mom's name to CancerCare Manitoba or to a charity of their own choosing. www.voyagefuneralhomes.com
