FEDIR THEODOR HUMENIUK May 24, 1922 - September 20, 2018 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad and granddad, and a pillar of our community, Fedir (Fred) Theodor Humeniuk of Winnipeg, MB. Fedir was born in the village of Hrushka, Ukraine on May 24, 1922. He was 96 years young. Fedir will be remembered as a respected and leading member in the Ukrainian community. Fedir was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Nadia in 2006, parents, Ivan and Evdokea (Skromeda), brothers, Nick and Michael, and sister Mary. He is survived by his sons, George (Deb), Roman and Miron, grandson Mathew, sister Anna, and many cousins, nieces and nephews in Manitoba and his beloved homeland of Ukraine. After the war Fedir studied business in Italy for two years before moving to England where he spent five years. He then immigrated to Winnipeg where he met and married his wife Nadia Zinchuk in 1956. They settled in Garden City and raised three sons, George, Roman and Miron. Fedir was employed at Bristol Aerospace for 43 years and retired in 1994. Fedir was heavily involved in many Ukraine organizations, which included serving as President of the League of Ukrainian Canadians and President of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists. He also sat on the executive committees of Ukrainian organizations including SUM, Institute Prosvita and Ukrainian Congress of Canada among others. He received many awards for his dedicated service in preserving the Ukrainian heritage and in recognition of his work in promoting the Ukrainian community; he received the Bulava Award in 2016. Fedir was dedicated to his Ukrainian Catholic Faith and he completed three years of studies in Theology. He was an active and devoted member of St. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral since immigrating to Canada. Fedir participated in the St. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral choir and was also a member of the Dumka choir for over 50 years. The family would like to thank the doctors and the team of nurses and staff of Jocelyn House Hospice and the doctors and staff at the Palliative Care program at Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate care over the last year. Prayers will be held at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St., at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Rt. Rev. Msgr. Michael Buyachok at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 27 at Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery.
