SAM BABEY 1930 - 2018 It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Sam Babey, in his 87th year, on Tuesday, September 25, 2018. Sam passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. He will always be remembered as a beloved father, brother, uncle, stepgrandfather and cousin. Sam will be cherished by his sons, Donald (Beverly Stepaniuk) and Michael (Lisa Kachulak-Babey), brother Michael Babij of St. Catharines, ON, nieces, Hania Cotnam (Patrick) of Burlington, ON and Michele Albright (Joe) of Fleetwood, PA, stepgrandson Tyler Mandziuk, and several cousins in Ukraine. He was predeceased by his wife Jean (nee Pyluk), parents, Damian and Anna Babey (nee Charney). Dad was born in the village of Kut, Ternopilska Oblast, Western Ukraine and immigrated to Ethelbert, MB at the age of eight with his parents and brother. Sam adopted Canada as his home. From Ethelbert, Sam travelled, worked and lived in Ontario, Northern Manitoba, North West Territories, and finally returned to settle in Winnipeg where he met and married his beloved Jean in 1966. Together they built their family in the North End with the birth of their sons, Donald and Michael. Sam had a strong work ethic, was a devoted worker for Bonar & Bemis Printing Co. working as a Pressman for over 30 years up until his retirement. He was a diligent and detailed person which reflected in his work and home life, where he did everything he could to do for "THE JOB". Sam and his family were long-time members of St. Joseph Ukrainian Catholic Parish and were involved with many Ukrainian Community events over the years. He enjoyed time spent with family, friends and tending to his beloved backyard flower and vegetable garden. Our family thanks the staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital on the 5th Floor, Unit 3 for their care of Dad. Special thank you to Point Douglas Home Care who allowed Sam to stay in his home as long as possible prior to hospitalization. Dad's final residence was at Brummitt-Feasby A.L.S. House who provided exceptional care and attention to his needs. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to A.L.S. Society-Brummitt-Feasby House, 106 Kirby Dr., Winnipeg, MB R2Y 0E8 and are greatly appreciated by the family. Prayers will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. also at the Chapel, with interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. I am so sorry for your loss. Sam was a great guy and it was my pleasure to help him stay in his home as long as possible. He would always talk highly of his boys. Rest in peace Sam. - Posted by: sherry (home care worker) on: Sep 30, 2018
