Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER JOHN KURYK September 29, 1938 - September 26, 2018 Suddenly on September 26, 2018, Peter passed away, three days short of his 80th birthday. Peter leaves to mourn his wife Marjorie of 55 years, his daughter Susan, his son Richard (Heather) and grandchildren, Tyler, Ryan, Nicole, Nikolai and Jonah, who were his pride and joy. Left to cherish Peter's memory are his brothers, George (Lydia), Robert (Pat) and Donald (Carole) and sister Lynne, brother-in-law James (Diane) Fedoruk, numerous nieces and nephews, and godchildren, Joel and Ellen Kubay. Peter was predeceased by his parents, George and Doris, his nephew Andrew, mother and father-in-law Mary and Jacob Fedoruk and brother-in-law Robert Fedoruk. Peter grew up on Minnigaffe Street in the North End where he attended Faraday, Strathcona and Isaac Newton High Schools. Peter played football at Isaac Newton High where he was an "All Star" Defensive Tackle, also playing Junior Football with the Weston Wildcats. He was a player and executive member of the St. Vital Bulldogs winning the Canadian Championship in 1960 and 1962. He was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 2007, the Manitoba Football Hall of Fame in 2010 and 2018, and also received the Order of the Buffalo Hunt. Volunteering became the next passion in Peter's life. He was the Chairman of the Ukrainian National Home, volunteered with North Winnipeg Minor Hockey, the Billy Mosienko Annual Hockey Tournament, assisting with all sports at Frank Whyte and Northwood Community Clubs and gave time wherever needed. Peter was employed by Canada Post as a letter carrier for 37 and a half years, retiring in 1994. At this time he became Grandpa Daycare to his grandsons, Tyler and Ryan which was time he cherished. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Men's Senior Golf Association. The highlight of his golfing days was his "Hole-in-One" in 2012. Peter is fondly remembered as our Family Historian. Others referred to him as a walking encyclopedia. It's been said that whatever information or statistics he gave you were always proven to be accurate. He believed he was a special breed of Ukrainian Viking and had the appropriate documentation. Special thanks to Dr. Haligowski. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, October 9, at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.

Grandpa was always the light at any occasion. His big bright smile, great sense of humour, and being able to tell you where anyone was from based on their last name. Every fact of knowledge he stored was useful. Forever your little goldilocks ❤︎ - Posted by: Nicole (Granddaughter ) on: Oct 26, 2024

Peter was our mail man on Monreith Street where my parents lived for over 50 years. He was always kind and I got to know his brothers a little as Bob was my hockey coach and Don was a referee. I heard about his passing and the fact in happened after a game of golf sounds almost ok. My condolences to the Kuryk family Tom Anderson - Posted by: Tom Anderson (Friend) on: Oct 09, 2018

Very sad to hear of Peter's passing. I worked with Peter in my early years at Canada Post at Depot R where my Dad was the Supervisor. We had so many characters at that office and Peter was certainly one of them. In reading his obituary it is evident that his life was well lived. My condolences to the family from myself and my Dad. Rest in peace old friend. - Posted by: Dean Swanton (Friend and co-worker) on: Oct 06, 2018
