GERALD VAN CHRISTENSON April 1944 - October 2018 With great sorrow we announce that Gerald passed away October 15, 2018, at Health Sciences Centre, after a battle with Mesothelioma. Gerald was predeceased by his parents, Wilfrid and Jessie, sister Sandra, and wife Fayleen. He will be mourned by his daughter Erika (Jamie), granddaughters, Abigail and Helena, brothers, Paul (Maureen), Rae (Jan), and sister Shelley, along with many family members and close friends. Gerry was known by his family and his friends as a skilled man of many hobbies and construction talents, and could almost always be found in the garage working on a vehicle or building something from scratch. He was always "figuring" something, and every scrap of paper or napkin could be found with the blueprints for his latest great idea. He was the person to see if you needed something fixed or built, and if he could not solve your problem you could be sure he had a connection that could get it done for you. He loved his cars, fishing, his cabin, wine making, and perfecting the family Christmas cake recipe with just the "right amount" of rum. The world is a lesser place without Gerry, and he will be missed tremendously by all who knew him. Service to be held on Tuesday, October 23 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment to follow in Brookside Cemetery.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Our sincerest condolences to the family on the passing of Gerald. We have been neighbours for 47 years and have over that time seem many changes in our families and the neighbourhood. The world is a sadder place for his loss. Personally, I shall miss our chats when I would be shopping at Safeway and his great stories of growing up on Almey . Again our condolences to Erika and her family, Ray and his family, Paul and his family and Shelley ........ • It is with great sadness that you are no longer with us, but there is a sense of relief you are no longer suffering. I have fond memories of being brothers and then neighbors. Even though we had our own homes, in some respect we never left home. We had many fishing trips, camping trips, and hunting excursions. Our weekends at the Lee River Cabin, George Lake fishing, snowmobiling right out of our back doors, and fishing at Linklater created many happy memories. Maureen was delighted to spend summer evenings watching Goldeyes games and loved doing puzzles in the sun room overlooking the pond at the lake. Lynn & Kevin alwyas has a special place in their hearts for the great uncle you were to them. And later in life you shared your humor and kindness with their partners Alan and David. Our daughters, Erika, Kelly & Kara grew up together. Kelly & KoKo arrived in our lives at the same time. We were often reminded of the time you spent a day washing and polishing your vehicle and Kelly at the age of 5 decided to help and sprayed the whole car with a hose. Your nickname for her was motormouth. Kara was always next door, her and Erika to this day can still recite every word from the Spaceball movie. Kara spent many, many weekends at Linklater and fondly remembers the swing you hung at the back door. She always said you were the best uncle, blessed with the spirit of a kid. You drove both Kelly & Kara to the Church on their wedding days in your 1965 burgundy Pontiac Parisienne. Trevor & Kristian (aka Jimmy) always laughed when they parked their cars in your driveway, and you would yell out the window "wanna beer". Always in our hearts, Love Paul, Maureen, Lynn & Alan, Keven & David, Kelly & Trevor, Kara & Kristian and all your great nieces & nephew. - Posted by: Paul (Brother ) on: Oct 23, 2018
