ROSALINA ADELAIDE FARIA Born: April 9, 1947 Died: October 24, 2018 Age: 71 years Peacefully, Rosalina Faria, passed away on October 24, 2018 after a lengthy battle with cancer and is now again with her husband of 38 years, Joaquim Faria, who passed away in 2004. She is lovingly remembered by her son Joaquim (Joanna), daughter Diva (Ron), and her three grandchildren, Dante, Bryn and Paige. She is survived by her brothers, Antonio (Manuela) and Amandio (Fatima). Rosalina was born on April 9, 1947 in Santo Tirso, Portugal and lived there until the time she met and later married Joaquim when she was 19 years old. They briefly lived in France before immigrating to Canada in 1974, where she remained until her passing. Within days of arriving in Winnipeg, Rosalina began her 31-year career as a seamstress. She developed and maintained close friendships with the women she met at work - many of whom maintained contact with her until her passing. Her neighbours also became among her closest friends, where they shared Portuguese specialty dishes of bacalhau, feijouada, and sardinas assadas. The smoke from the grill will forever linger over the West End neighbourhood. Following her husband's death, Rosalina spent winters in Winnipeg and summers in Portugal. There, she maintained close relationships with all of her relatives on both sides of the family. Always good-spirited, she enjoyed her time there with everyone, and always returned with stories full of laughter and fun. In her later years, Rosalina's greatest joys involved her grandchildren. In attending their christenings, communions, soccer games, school concerts or dance competitions, she always made them a priority. Taking driving lessons at age 57 gave her the independence to be wherever her grandchildren were. She also enjoyed visiting with her friends and going with them for coffee and pastries. The family thanks the staff of CancerCare Manitoba, WRHA's Home Care Program, Misericordia Health Centre, and Kildonan Personal Care Centre for their care and compassion during the final stage of Rosalina's life. A viewing will take place on Monday, October 29, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street in Winnipeg. A funeral will be held at a later date in Portugal. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

Mrs. Faria will be remembered in my heart as kind, sweet, and so incredibly caring when it came to her family. As a young teen, our friends were often over at the house where she lived with her daughter Diva and her family, and Mrs. Faria always greeted us with open arms. She regularly drove us home from school, and did so without grumbling, no matter how many people we tried to convince her to fit into the backseat of the car. It was so clear to all of our friends how much Mrs. Faria cared about her children and her grandchildren, and I know that they will have her in their hearts all their lives. My sincere condolences to Bryn, Paige, Diva, Ron and family as you mourn the loss of your dearly loved grandmother and mom. - Posted by: Chloe (Friend of Grandson Bryn) on: Oct 28, 2018
