KATHERINE SCHROEDER February 24, 1929 - November 13, 2018 Katherine Schroeder, of Winnipeg, MB, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at the Grace Hospital, at the age of 89. She is survived by her children, Lydia, Gordon (Joan), Steve (Caroline), Leah and Tammy (Steph); 10 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers and one sister. She was predeceased by her husband John, and children, Helena, Albert and Brenda. Katherine was born in Halbstadt, Manitoba on February 24, 1929 and was one of 14 children. Katherine married John Schroeder on August 17, 1947. They were married 66 years. Katherine's faith and service to her church community were key aspects to her life. She was a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and very involved in Women in Mission. She volunteered with MCC with quilting and in the thrift store. She was also involved with the planning of building Bethel Place. If she didn't know how to do something, that didn't stop her. For example, in her middle age she went back to school to get her GED and then a medical terminology course to start a new career. She had a love of learning. She spent many years researching and writing her family history. She also wrote her story of their life in Paraguay. Her creativity included her love of sewing, crafts, quilting, baking and more. As a loving and compassionate person, her caring extended beyond just her family, including hospice work and always having her home open to anyone with love and acceptance. Katherine was deeply devoted to her family and her faith. She will be remembered for her love, strength, wisdom, patience and generosity. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bethel Mennonite Church, 465 Stafford St., Winnipeg MB, viewing prior to the service.
