She is survived by her loving family: husband Dennis; son Coleman (Heidi) and their children, Theo, Lila and Everly; son Leighton (fiancée Hailey) and their child Isabella; and daughter Jade (fiancé Keith). Also surviving her are brother Raymond; sister Iris (Wolfgang); sister June; cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Olafur and Nanna Swanson. Donna was born in Winnipeg and spent a happy childhood with her siblings and neighbourhood friends. She enjoyed music lessons, Girl Guides, Pioneer Girls, Camp Arnes, sports and drawing. She also attended the Brooklands Community Church. Special highlights of her youth were participating in the International Peace Garden Track Camp and being a member of the Young Cooperators Writing Club. She was happy to have some of her stories and poems published. Donna loved spending time with family and friends and they were tremendously important to her. She loved life, writing, reading, art, socializing, walking, movies (especially those starring Tom Hanks), dining out, slo-pitch, curling, bowling and travel. Vacations in California, the Caribbean and Las Vegas were particular favourites. She was proud of her Icelandic heritage and liked going to Folklorama. Education was important to our mom. After graduating from St. James Collegiate, she took the Creative Communications course at Red River College and wrote radio commercials and did freelance writing. She went on to complete a Bachelor of Recreation Studies degree and obtained an Activity Worker's certificate. She worked in the area of recreation for many years, most recently as an Adult Day Program Coordinator, and loved it. Donna volunteered at her children's school, helping out in the classroom and assisting the Anola Band Parents Association. She also enjoyed volunteering for several years at the Winnipeg International Writers Festival. A service will be held on Saturday, November 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour with interment to follow in Eastdale Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow in the Brokenhead Room, Brokenhead River Community Hall. Donna feels she had a good life and now thanks all the caring people she met throughout her life. She will miss all of them. Special thanks to Gail and Ken, Susan and Rick, Donna R., Bev, Ben and Mary, Fitz, Vicky, Mel, Heather, Sally, Sherry, Lori, Amanda, Diane and Hanna, and all of her medical caregivers. I met Donna in the early 1970s and we became close friends for a number of years until I moved north to Thompson and we drifted apart. I was deeply saddened when I recently heard about her passing. I remember her as a kind considerate person with a wry sense of humour. She dreamt of starting a career in writing, an aspiration we shared. My deep condolences to the family. I still think of her often and regret never having a chance to reconnect. Warm regards, Albert Hille - Posted by: Albert Hille (Friend ) on: Mar 26, 2024

So sorry to hear about Donna's passing. She always had a smile and loved to chat with everyone. We got to know Donna and her family when we joined the Hazelridge community club and our kids were in skating together many years ago and through school at Anola school. She was a real nice person and our thoughts and sympathies go out to Dennis and the family. - Posted by: Lorna And Dale Verschoore and family (Friends) on: Nov 25, 2018

Donna was a person you could only hope to be half as nice as. I am SO sorry for your loss. She loved her family so very much and was so proud of all of you. You truly were most important to her. How lovely to have had her in your life. God bless all of you with lots of wonderful memories of the love you shared. She made a big impact in my life and I loved working with her. Thoughtfulness would be the word that comes to mind when I think of her. She loved. And she was loved. - Posted by: Heather Godri (Friend and co-worker) on: Nov 22, 2018

Rest in peace to the most amazing mother I could have ever asked for. I will miss you every day because there's so much to miss about you. I'm so thankful for all the beautiful memories I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Life without you will be tough, but you worked so hard to make me tough. Your smile was so beautiful. Your sense of humor and infectious laugh were my favorite things about you. Always making me laugh until my sides hurt. You always made me feel better when ever I was hurting and were always there for me no matter what. I feel so proud whenever I get told that I look or act like you because I've always thought you were the most beautiful inside and out. Love you mom.💓🙏 - Posted by: Jade (Daughter ) on: Nov 22, 2018
