Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNATALIA (NETTIE) ROMANIUK (nee MAKSIMCHUK) June 13, 1923 - December 15, 2018 Natalia "Nettie" Romaniuk (nee Maksimchuk), aged 95, formerly of Roseau River, MB, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Repos Jolys, St. Pierre, MB. She is survived by her sisters, Anne (Peter) Derbowka of Oshawa, ON and Helen (Steve) Kruk of Carman, MB; sister-in-law Helen (William) Maksimchuk of Scarborough, ON; her nieces and nephews, Ron Starr, Bill Starr, Garry Macks, Ted Madison, Joyce Luptak, David Kruk, Brian Kruk, Lorraine Bourgeois and Robert Kruk. She was predeceased by her loving husband William "Bill" Romaniuk; her brothers, Dan Madison, William Maksimchuk, John Maksimchuk, Alex Maksimchuk, Peter Macks, Maurice Maksimchuk and Terry Maksimchuk; her nephew Ron Madison and niece Nadine Maksimchuk. Nettie was a loving and caring daughter, sister, wife, aunt and friend. Anyone who had the privilege to know her, loved her. She was born and grew up in Rosa, MB and married her handsome Bill Romaniuk when she was only 15. They soon moved to Toronto, ON where she worked for a shoe company for many years. When they decided to move back to Manitoba, they settled in Roseau River. After Bill passed away in 1998, Nettie continued to live in their home until it was time to move to the Chalet Malouin Retirement Home in St. Malo. Nettie lived life to the fullest. She loved children, though she never had any of her own. She was like a second mom to her younger siblings, Helen and Terry. Her nieces and nephews all wanted to visit Aunt Nettie, as she made each one feel loved and special. For Nettie, there were no bad singers in her family, only those who needed more practice. She loved to sing and often sung her voicemail messages. Nettie spent hours every day caring for her huge flower and vegetable gardens, which were her pride and joy. She was a great cook and gracious hostess; when not working in her garden, Nettie was found in the kitchen cooking, baking or preserving food. Her home was often filled with the smell of good food and the sound of happy people enjoying her food. Many times, while Nettie was at the stove preparing a meal, Bill would take her hand and dance her around the kitchen to a song on the radio. She and Bill attended many community events at Rosa Hall where they enjoyed dancing to a live band. In her later years, when Nettie needed some assistance, she was blessed with the ongoing care of three exceptional women. A heartfelt thank you to all three, Eileen Nedohin and Michelle Lafournaise for their loving "feet on the ground" work on behalf of the family and Molly Starr, niece by marriage, for her work handling Nettie's affairs. A special thank you the staff at Repos Jolys and Chalet Malouin Retirement Home for their care of this wonderful lady, who will be greatly missed. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 PTH 52W, Steinbach, MB with a viewing one hour prior to the service. There will be a lunch following the service. The interment will take place at Roseau River Community Cemetery, Roseau River, MB.
