LENA DUECK September 2, 1931 - December 31, 2018 Lena Dueck, aged 87, of Bethel Place, Winnipeg, MB, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018, at Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, MB. She was born September 2, 1931, near Horndean, MB, to Jacob P. and Anganetha Dueck. Lena is survived by one sister Agatha; and brothers, John, and Henry (Marie); and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, five sisters, and six in-laws. Lena graduated from Steinbach Bible Institute, Goshen College in Indiana, and the University of Manitoba. She taught in public school two years, and high school five years. Her passions were family, literacy, linguistics, reading and Bible translation. For 31 years she worked with Wycliffe Bible Translators in their education and worker/staff recruitment programs. After retirement and her move to Bethel Place, Lena continued to be a productive and active person. For several years, she helped foreign students attending local universities with their English language skills. Continuing connection with the activities of her nieces and nephews and the writing group at Bethel Place kept her mind active. Her last assignment she could not keep - to report the writing group's activity to the New Year's Eve Party at Bethel Place. On December 28, 2018 she had a serious stroke resulting in her death on New Year's Eve. A heartfelt thank you to all the medical staff who worked with her on those last four days. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Mennonite Church, 465 Stafford St., Winnipeg, MB, with a viewing before the service. • Taught at W.C. Miller High School with Lena in the late 1960s. Sadly, over the years we lost touch, as Lena travelled the world with her translation work. A very gentle, kindly soul. She will be missed by her close friends and family. - Posted by: Cheryl Willis (Former teaching colleague) on: Jan 07, 2019

  • My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Valerie Alderson (Homcare nurse ) on: Jan 06, 2019
