JULIA SOUSA December 16, 1933 - January 14, 2019 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Julia Sousa, at the age of 85, on Monday, January 14, 2019. She was predeceased by her husband Edmundo Manuel Sousa, both parents, one sister, five brothers-in-law, one son-in-law and two granddaughters. Julia was born on December 16, 1933 in Lagoa, Portugal, and immigrated to Canada in August 1974. When Julia first came to Winnipeg she worked as a seamstress and then for many years she worked in the cleaning services until retirement. She had a very hard life, but a good life. She loved being around her children; and especially her grandkids and great-grandkids. She loved sitting around the kitchen table or outside telling jokes and stories. Julia cherished her roles as a mother and grandmother; she simply loved her family. Julia will be lovingly remembered by her children, Carlos (Anjos), Estrela, Gabriela (Alberto), Paul (Ana), Edmundo and Antonio (Deborah), 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, sisters, Rosa, Beatriz, Estrela and Rozario. The family thanks Seven Oaks General Hospital for all the compassion they had for Mom. Honorary Pallbearers are Ricardo DeSousa, Cesar Botelho, Paul DeSousa, Christopher Rosa, Antonio Sousa, Daniel Sousa, Miguel Sousa and Sergio Sousa. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, January 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 24 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Parish, 181 Austin Street N. Entombment to follow in Assumption Cemetery. Even though you are gone, you will be in our hearts forever! Heaven Needed A Mom So many things of Mom I miss Her gentle hug and tender kiss I still feel her warm embrace And yet picture her loving face A mother's task is never done And Heaven must have needed one For Angels came and took her hand And led her to God's promised land She surely kept busy then While brushing little angel's hair And making sure they're dressed just right Not staying out too late at night Although there's sadness this I know She's waiting there her face aglow I close my eyes I can see Her arms still open Wide for me We love and miss you Mom!
