GORDON WAYNE (POK) POKRANT
Born: Jun 06, 1959
Date of Passing: Jan 13, 2019
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGORDON WAYNE (POK) POKRANT June 6, 1959 - January 13, 2019 Peacefully, at home, and with family by his side, on Sunday, January 13, 2019 Gord, aged 59, ended his battle with cancer and went to be with his Lord. Gord was predeceased by his loving mom, Marlene, in December 2018. Left to cherish his memory and the love he shared are his wife and "sweetie" Iris, father Cliff, brother Doug (Karen) Pokrant, sisters-in-law, Patti (Marty) Ryan, Pam (Steven), Amanda and Daniel Bembenek. Gord was blessed later in life to be the adoptive father to an upstanding young man named Nsamba Pokrant Vicent (Uganda). Gord will be greatly missed by many aunts and uncles, cousins and their families. Years of special family times have forged strong and loving bonds - resources upon which to draw in this season of loss. He developed many deep relationships that birthed extended families of sisters and brothers with nieces and nephews who knew they were loved by Uncle Gord. Gord was born in Transcona and moved to Charleswood at age nine. By that time he had already been on skates since the age of four and was on the way to having hockey both competitive and recreational be a lifelong passion along with other sports he enjoyed. After high school he held various short term jobs and then worked a number of seasons with the Canadian Pacific Railway - learning about and then heading up welding gangs and ballast gangs. He left there in 1985 to begin a job in the Education field; learning the workings of a classroom - first as an EA and then after getting his degree, as a teacher until his health dictated that he needed to step down from his Special Education position. He counted himself blessed to have had 20 years in a profession that he loved. Thank you to Dr. Michael West of the Neurosurgery Department at Health Sciences Centre for his longstanding medical expertise and support. Gord trusted and appreciated you so much. Our gratitude to the nursing staff on GA4 at the Health Sciences Centre and to the Palliative Care team for their care and compassion. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Albright Church, 415 Maxwell King Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boys and Girls Clubs Winnipeg, or Grannies Gone Global - Student Tuition costs. This obituary can also be viewed at: www.friendsfs.ca

Gord & I went to school together at RRCC in the Business Ed program in the 80s. We often studied together and became good friends. We lost touch when I moved to Toronto. I was happy to read that he did get his B.Ed. I buy I am so sad to hear of his passing. Sending love & prayers to his family. Dear Iris, My deepest sympathies to you at this difficult time. I thought of Gord often and regret not picking up the phone and reconnecting. He was such a sweet and funny guy. He will be missed by many. “Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.” Dene Proverb - Posted by: Pat Lewicki (Friend) on: Jan 19, 2019

Iris, Doug and Mr. Pokrant; Words can't begin to describe the sadness I feel with Gord's passing. He was such an incredible force and such a huge part of our family for most of my life. I'll remember the good times, like a road trip to see the Bombers in Grey Cup. So much laughter. I'm happy he's finally at peace and my heart goes out to all of you at this difficult time.
